Andrew:

I tapped my pen against the my desk as the history teacher kept blabbering about who-knows-what.

It has been a few weeks since Kiley had arrived, and she's doing good in classes, it makes me happy.

Most of the students were talking and some sleeping, drooling all over their desk. Which was nasty.

I glanced to my left, where Kiley was sound asleep, her arm hanging from the desk and the other under her head.

She looked so peaceful, as always.

The teacher sighed loudly and sat on the chair as she ordered us to read four pages of our text book. Most kids just pretended to read, and others read. Some were still asleep, like Kiley.

I can't wake her up unless I poke her. But I've been poking her for the past few seconds and she wouldn't budge, so I'll just leave her alone.

"Is Miss Kiley feeling sick?" Our teacher asked after a long period of silence. All of the students' attention snapped towards her.

I got off my seat and knelt besides Kiley. Placing a hand on her shoulder, I shook her. Which she still wouldn't budge.

I sighed, shaking her a bit harder. Her eyes finally snapped open, just inches apart from mine. Her eyes widened and she shifted away. I turned away, feeling my face hot, and sat back in my seat.

The teacher cleared her throat, looking at Kiley. She gave the teacher a blank look.

"Open up page forty-seven, Kiley," the teacher ordered.

Do these people get information of students from the office or do they expect us to tell them?

Kiley just sat there, her eyes squinting at the elder woman.

"Are you ignoring me?" The teacher asked, offended.

I faced Kiley and signed at her what the teacher ordered her to do. Kiley's lips parted slightly and she nodded in understanding, taking out her textbook and opening up the page.

The teacher gave me a surprised look and then gave everybody a torn expression.

"Why didn't anybody inform me she's deaf?"

"Weren't you supposed to know?" I said.
