Amara was sat on the sofa in the garage, fiddling with the edge of the blanket with her dried teary face staring at the ground. Lara was sat on her left side, like usual, rubbing her back soothingly. Molly was sat on the arm of the chair. The boys had gone to find Liam. It was time for her to finally be honest.
"I'm sorry for not sayin' anythin' sooner." Amara spoke up, her voice croaky.
"You don't have anythin' to apologise for, babe." Lara reassured, her hand on her shoulder. "How long has this been goin' on for?"
"About a month, maybe two." Amara admitted, sniffling again and moving her hair behind her ear. "The first time it happened was after the first gig we went to," she finally raised her head, "I-I had stayed over at Liam's, got home late and it was just my dad. He got angry at me.. I stupidly spoke back to him and he- he h-hit me.
He's never done anythin' like it before. He wasn't even wasted or anythin'.. I don't understand what came over him. I shouldn't of-"
"Don't blame yourself, you've done nothin' wrong." Molly stated, her hand on top of Amara's. "You don't have to go back home. You can stay here as long as you need to."
"I don't wanna be a burden-"
"You're not a burden, Amara." Lara told her, bringing her hand to Amara's face and making her look up at them slowly, "You're our best friend. We look after each other."
Amara felt her eyes well up again, "T-Thank you."
Lara and Molly brought her into a hug, "Oh Mari.. it's okay babe. You're gonna be okay."
The three girls stayed like that for a while. The time was unknown to them as they squeezed each other. Amara wiped her face, the tears as stopped once she sighed and caught her breath.
"Shit, I need to find Liam." Amara realised, standing up and grabbing her bag.
"Are you sure?" Lara asked, standing up as well. "Need us to come with?"
"No, no it's okay.. I need to clear my head anyways." She shook her head, opening the door. "I'll text you guys later."
"Alright, love you and be safe!" Molly bid her goodbye, and Amara stepped out into the cold air.
She sped walked back to her street, her bag clattering on her back as she held her arms close to her body. When she checked her phone she saw many missed calls from her dad, mum and a recent one from Noel surprisingly. Her head shot up when she saw her house in the distance, a police car had just left...
Amara sprinted towards her house when she saw her mum standing outside with Peggy, Noel was there too with his head in his hands.
"Mum?" Amara called, rushing over to her front door where everyone were.
"Amara, there you are! I've been worried sick!" Her mum exclaimed, pulling away from Peggy and rushing over to her daughter as well. Amara saw that her mum was suiting a mark near her eyes and on her wrist. Her heart dropped as she squeezed her mum tightly, "I'm so sorry dear.. I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you from him."
"I'm alright mum, I'm alright." Amara whispered into her shoulder, "Where's dad? Where's Liam? What were the police doin' here?" She pulled away.
"One of the other neighbors rang the police," Peggy calmly spoke for Amara's mum, who was silently crying. "They took your dad and Liam away."
"B-But he'll be okay, right? Liam'll be okay?" Amara panted, looking between the two mothers and Noel, who stood beside the girl.
Noel put his arm around her shoulders, "Course he will be. It's Liam, he'll bounce back." He reassured her, pulling her into a hug as she had never felt so vulnerable. Her arms wrapped around him whilst he lightly squeezed, "It'll be okay, he'll probably have to spend the night, but he'll be out before y'know it."
