CHAPTER FIFTY SIX: THE LETTER

A WEEK LATER.

Amara had just put the twins down for their nap, pressing a kiss to both of their foreheads before letting them drift off. Gene and Lara were growing so fast and every moment with them was adorable. Liam was at the studio, again. Amara felt like he was missing the growth of their new twins, but the family needed to have money somehow since Amara wasn't doing much.

She then heard the letterbox flap make a noise, so she headed downstairs and collected a letter from the mat. Strange. She wasn't expecting any mail this week.

Whilst opening the letter she walked through the hallway and into the living room where Amelia was playing on the floor with her toys. Lennon was at Patsy's this week, so it was Amara, Amelia and the twins in the house.

"Mari, play!" Amelia smiled up at the woman whilst playing with one of her babies dolls. Amara grinned, gently running her fingers through the girl's blonde hair and sitting down on the edge of the sofa nearby.

"In a second, darlin'." She softly replied, watching Amelia go back to playing before carefully opening the letter.

She didn't recognise the writing on the envelope, but when she opened the piece of paper.. she already knew who it was from.

Amara narrowed her eyes at first, trying to make sense of it. Was it real?

Her eyes flickered to where the letter has come from before scanning over the scruffy writing completely.

'Addiction Rehabilitation Centre. Drugs & Alcohol. London.'

Mari,

when i was given the option to write a letter i didn't know who to bloody write it for. after paris, i thought you hated me. i hated what i said to you as soon as i left that stupid hospital, i hated the way i left things.

i completely understand if you rip this whole thing to shreds and wanna have nothin to do with me. i get why you said no to comin with me too, i was selfish for askin that from you and a huge bitch for sayin that stuff about you bein pregnant.

i read the magazine you were in the other week as well, first time i had seen your face in a while believe it or not. you look great, really. congratulations by the way on havin twins, gene and lara are perfect names. i wish i was there. i hope amelia is great too, i miss my niece so much as much as i miss my best friend, i wish i was there to see her grow up.

im wafflin a bit aren't i. i just need to say that im sorry. im so sorry for everythin that happened that night, it was all my fault. i haven't been able to stop thinkin about it ever since i got here. you deserve to be happy, amara, and i hope you are. i should've wrote this ages ago, i hate myself for pushin it off for so long too.

you're my best friend amara, my sister, and i hope it isn't too late. i won't be goin anywhere anytime soon, so you know where to send a reply if you want to.

i really hope you aren't gonna give up on music either. you have no idea how talented you are, and your kids are definitely lucky to have you as their mum. you were born to be a performer, mari, don't waste it.

lara would be so proud of you too. She was your sister too. i think about you both everyday, and i know she'd be disappointed in me right now. but that's lara for ya if you remember. i can say for sure that she's proud of you for raisin amelia since i can't, i would've done a shit job anyway. she looks the spittin image of her doesn't she? that kid lucky to have you.

i hope i can see you again soon, even if it is in another paper or whateva. i have no idea when i'll leave this place, but anyway, send my best to the kids, maybe even your lad if he cares.

love you, loads.

Amara wiped a tear off her cheek, sniffling slightly as she hugged the letter to her chest.

She missed Molly so much it was practically indescribable. She couldn't believe what she was reading at first, having to re-read it multiple times before realising it was genuine.

Amara regretted their argument in Paris so much too. It was on both of them really, they both said things they regret, but it still hurt to know they left things so badly.

"Why cry, Mari?" Amelia asked, her gorgeous wide eyes looking up at Amara as she fiddled with the ends of her hair.

Amara sniffled again, wiping her eyes with a small smile so the girl wouldn't see her cry anymore, "C'mere, babe." She gestured to the girl, who was by her legs, picking her up when she got closer and placing her on her lap. "This is from your auntie, you remember auntie Molly?"

Amelia nodded slowly whilst Amara slowly bounced her on her lap, "Well, Auntie Molly misses you so much, babe. She wishes she was here, yeah?"

"When she come back?" The little girl asked curiously.

In simple terms, Amelia knew that her auntie was in a special place so she could get better because she was a little bit ill.

"I'm.. not sure, darlin'." Amara replied, rubbing the girl's arm gently, "But auntie Molly loves you so much, and she misses you." She tried not to tear up as she spoke, inhaling shakily and wiping her eyes quickly.

"And your mummy- she loved you so much too.. and she'd be really proud of you, Ames." Her voice broke slightly at the mention of Lara, giving a reassuring smile to the girl on her lap. Amelia was too young to understand the truth, but Amara made sure that she will know when she's older, but still know that her mum and auntie loved her.

Amara hugged her goddaughter, who wrapped their small arms around her neck. "Love you, Mari."

"I love you too, Ames."

Despite everything that had gone off, Amara was happy about how far she had come. She thought about what she could write back to Molly, but it would be a while until she'd be able to bring herself to it after so long of no contact.

She was happy. So fucking happy. She ensured Amelia wouldn't forget Lara or Molly and made certain she raised her the same as Lennon, Gene and Lara Gallagher.

And then maybe I'll be cheeky and do some chapters of 2017+ so when LG comes back to singing etc cause As You Were is a smashing album

Bear with me okay it might be rough this book is longer than I anticipated it to be
