My eyes blinked open and the sun peeked its way through my boarded up window. I groaned at my lack of sleep. I grabbed the nearest pillow and put it over my face attempting to drift back off into a nice slumber. That was very quickly interrupted by Pony barging in "How are you not up yet, We are gonna be late" he huffed.
"5 more minutes" I bargained. I rolled over and pulled the cover over my head.
Pony was not amused, He yanked the cover completely off. "Leaving in 10 minutes." He said as he threw the blanket into the living room.
I knew the morning was going to come way faster then I wanted it to, I wonder what time Soda ended up turning in last night. I let out a groan and drug myself out of bed, slid on some blue jeans and made my way to the bathroom to get ready for school. When we got to school I parted ways with Pony and Two-bit and made my way to the middle school building.
I was waiting for Ella at our usual meeting spot to fill her in on the past 24 hours but she never showed. I am not loving being put on the back burner because of a stupid boy. Ella and I clicked almost immediately and I have enjoyed her being one of my closest friends for the past few months, despite her being sort of the main reason for me always being grounded, I honestly feel like I could be myself with her and tell her anything. How am I suppose to tell her anything if she is always up Carters butt.
I plopped down at my desk in my first block and waited to see if school was something Ella still participated in to my surprise she ran into the class right as the bell rang. "Cutting a little closes there Miss. Shepherd, Please take your seat" the teacher warned using Ellas last name. "Yes Ma'am" she acknowledged sitting down beside me.
I glared her way "Where were you this morning?" I whispered.
She was rummaging through her backpack looking for the homework that was due today. She grabbed out a blank crumbled piece of paper. "Shit" she murmured. "I forgot todo the homework from last night." Completely ignoring my question. "Can I copy yours real quick?"
I thought about lying and telling her I didn't do my homework either out of annoyance of her forgetting my existence other then when she conveniently needed something but I knew she would never believe that, Darry is super strict about chores and homework and makes sure it is always done. "Fine, I guess" I grunted and pulled my completed homework that took me 2 hours to finish out of my notebook and slid it to Ella to copy. I started daydreaming out the window beside me as class contuined within minutes later was snapped back to reality from a ruler crashing down on a desk. "Ella Shepard! Are you copying Baylee's homework??" Miss. Tucker grabbed both or the papers out from under Ellas pencil and tore them down the middle. "There will be no tolerance of cheating of any kind in my class room, you will both receive zero for this assignment and maybe that will teach you to do your homework yourself and not let your friends copy your work either...if it is even your work." She denounced while looking back and forth between us.
The rest of the class was quite and I was pissed "That took me hours to complete Miss. Tucker... I think its hardly fair I should have to receive a Zero just because Ella didn't do her homework" I argued with a somewhat sassy tone. Ella darted her eyes at me clearly irritated at my attempt to throw her under the bus.
Miss. Tucker pointed her ruler at me "Letting your friends copy your work is still cheating and is against the code of conduct. It will not be tolerated period."
"This is bullshit" I cursed.
"Utterly" Ella added.
"Enough both of you, This kind of behavior is unacceptable. You can both make your way to the principals office" Miss Tucker ordered as she wrote out a detention slip and handed one to Ella and I.
