The summer holidays were incredibly boring and disappointing for Hally. She loathed being back with the Dursley's and the feeling was very mutual on their side of things.

The only bright part of the summer so far had been that she had gotten her own bedroom which had previously been Dudley's second room. Alas, that meant that she had to listen to him throw tantrums about it for days, even though he hardly used the room as anything more than a storage space for the toys and electronics that he had broken over the years. At one point he had screamed his voice so raw about it that he actually couldn't speak for a day. That was the most peaceful twenty four hours Hally had experienced so far since coming back from Hogwarts.

She wasn't sure what prompted her aunt and uncle to move her upstairs but she didn't question the new space she acquired because for the most part, after Dudley stopped being a big baby about it, they all left her alone. Though she guessed that was mostly because they weren't aware that she couldn't do magic outside of school until she was seventeen. She wanted to keep that little tidbit of information to herself.

She was quite lonely. She missed her friends a great deal, although, she wasn't convinced they felt the same way because none of them had bothered to write to her at all this summer.

Her only reprieve was that she would be back at Hogwarts soon even if no one would be waiting to see her. Additionally, she would be lying if she said that the idea of seeing a certain potions professor again didn't bring a smile to her to face.

She had been brainstorming ideas throughout the whole break so far. Trying to come up with ways that would potentially give her a chance to spend more time with him this year. She was sure that if he got to know her a bit he would actually enjoy her company. Most adults did, outside of the Dursley's and Mr Filch, the schools wretched caretaker.

The only issue was that she couldn't come up with anything outside of getting herself detentions with him constantly and that just wouldn't do because if she was getting into trouble he would have even more of a reason to detest her as well as not wish to be in her company.

Then on the day of her twelfth birthday while she was cleaning the whole house for the potential business partner her uncle was having over later that day, an absolutely magnificent idea came to her !

Once she was back at school she would speak to professor Dumbledore and tell him about her interest in potions. Then she would subtly inquire about any openings as a helper of sorts for the potions professor. For a chance to further her education in the subject of course.

Even cleaning cauldrons like what he had her doing the one time she had detention with him still counted as spending time with him. She could do any clean ups that he didn't want to do or gather ingredients for potions with, or, for him. She was completely fine with touching dirty things and she was brilliant at tidying up messes. She supposed that was the only good portion of being the Dursley's- who were some of the most foul people- unpaid maid her whole life.
