It was the following Thursday afternoon on a very cold December day when professor Mcgonagall informed them all that Hogwarts was hosting a Yule Ball that would be taking place on Christmas Day at eight o'clock sharp.

"It is quick approaching,' she continued to explain, 'it has been a prominent part of the Triwizard Tournament that promotes socialization amongst the competing schools. It gives us a way to get to know our foreign guests better— to make friends !" She explained cheerily.

Hally thought back to the conversation she eavesdropped on between Snape and Draco last week and wondered if this is what the little ferret was referring to.

"You will all be required to wear dress robes,' she continued, 'and although it is an opportunity for a fun night... I must impress my expectations that all Hogwarts students be on their best behaviour."

As Mcgonagall finished her announcement and everyone started to excitedly talk amongst themselves while waiting for the bell to ring; Hally got the distinct feeling that someone's eyes were on her.

Her skin prickled as she looked around the room to where the Slytherin's were sitting until her eyes landed onto Malfoy's. He was shooting a sharp glare in her direction— which wasn't necessarily out of the ordinary but today it seemed more menacing than his usually snotty, 'I'm better than you' stares.

Draco Malfoy was as confusing as any boy her age could be.

Ron was like an open book when he was upset and his petulance came in the form of petty silence.

Draco on the other hand was ruthless. When he was mad at her Hally was always aware of it. He went out of his way to constantly come at her and as the years went on his hatred for her was only growing stronger.

Instead of backing down from him though she found herself throwing just as sharp of a glare right back at him.

Echoes of girls talking about their dresses and boys trying to decide who was available to ask rang in Hally's ears before their intense eye contact was finally broken by professor Mcgonagall calling her over to her just as the rest of the class got ready to leave.

Draco's lip curled up in disgust as his eyes narrowed onto the back of Hally's robes as she made her way over to her head of house.

Mcgonagall's face was pinched tightly as Hally stopped in front of her. "Has professor Dumbledore had the chance to speak to you about the Yule ball yet ?"

"No, this is the first I've heard about it." She quietly responded.

Mcgonagall's expression took on one of pity as she placed a delicate hand onto Hally's shoulder. "Well since you are here I might as well inform you on what he has planned."

Hally didn't like the way that sounded. She sent a nod at Mcgonagall in encouragement as she tried to keep her thoughts from running rampant.

Mcgonagall's hand tightened slightly before she went on. "There is a first dance that all of the triwizard champions are required to complete with a partner and professor Dumbledore would like all of the houses being represented this year as there are two Hogwarts champions."
