Esme

"Hey darling, I know it is early, I am sorry,"

"Huh?"

"Time to wake up,"

"Five more minutes,"

"Nope,"

Dad opened my blinds a bit, then passed me some warm milk, getting my uniform out for me. It was much nicer than Link's stupid alarm, I had to say.

I got dressed, then he brought me breakfast while I did my makeup which woke me up a bit more. He wore joggers and a hoodie, but had done his hair. None of my friends were up yet, but I remembered I needed to tell Jay he didn't need to get me today.

I brushed my teeth and grabbed my bag, then got in the car, almost robotically. Almost like before all of this happened.

"Your makeup looks nice!"

"Thank you,"

"All ready? Here is lunch,"

"Yeah, thanks,"

"Any food requests for tonight?"

"I'll have whatever,"

"Easy peasy then,"

Nodding, I yawned, and sat back in my seat, closing my eyes. It wasn't that much earlier, maybe about 45 minutes compared to normal, but it felt early to me.

When we got to the office, dad spoke to the receptionist and had to update the form for me while I basically slept on his side. I could feel my phone buzzing from messages, but didn't have the energy to look.

"Esme Hood?"

"Eyes open," dad laughed quietly, "School is soon!"

"I need my coffee,"

"I am sure Link will have it for you,"

We followed the assistant, but went to x-ray first since it had been ages. I had had multiple fillings, so Michael had always made me come every three months to make sure it was all okay- after a year I wasn't surprised I needed new x-rays.

After that, we went to his office and he was a million more times awake than me.

"Morning!"

"Yep,"

"I know it's early. Sorry,"

"It's okay. Dad woke me up with warm milk,"

"I might have to move in," he said, lowering the chair as I sat down, "Pop these on, then I will take a look for you,"

I put the sunglasses on and opened my mouth, sitting patiently as he prodded round.

"Can I see the x-rays?" he said, keeping his mirror in my mouth. I pretended to bite him and he lightly hit my cheek, then went back to prodding.

"You drink a lot of coffee,"

"Mhm,"

"Cherry polish?"

"Yeah. Mike this tooth hurts,"

"Oh trust me, I can see that. Why on Earth didn't you tell anyone, sweetheart? It must be killing you!"

"No one to tell,"

"Well I will get it fixed as soon as possible. Bless you,"

"This tastes gross,"

"Stop talking then,"

I huffed and did as he said, then rinsed my mouth and he sat me up, dad chewing on his thumb.
