Kaiden's P.O.V:
"I accept the interrogation."
Her voice rang loud and clear, but I felt some of her true emotions in the bond. Lily was utterly terrified, and it made me wonder what the hell Aimee said to her. I only glared at the hunters and wolves in the uniforms. I knew the rules the mutt talked about. Even if I had refused, taken her out of here and on the run, the hunters' council still would've chased us down with the vampire getting this close. That must've meant the vampire council was now wanting that leech dealt with too.
What in the hell was that leech doing to making the vampire council give the hunters a green light this early on?
"What happens now?" Lily's voice pulled me out of my head.
The wolf that irritated me only glared at me as she asked, "Did you seriously not train your human? Do you have to wipe her ass for her too?"
Before I could react, Jason had punched the wolf in the back of her head and said as she fell to the floor with a thud, "Enough with the disrespect, underling. Next time, your ass will be handed to you by Kade."
"Everyone leave," I ordered, making the others hunters drag the unconscious wolf out of the room.
With the room now completely silent, only the sounds of Lily's heart monitor beeping rhythmically, I fought against the urge to scream at Lily about what she'd just accepted. I pulled my hand out of her hand, sighing, then took a few steps to stand at the foot of her bed. Turning to face Lily, I saw that she was only watching me. No, she was studying my body language. Her emotional war was going back on through the bond so it was getting harder and harder to understand what in the hell she was thinking!
"You could at least say something," I heard her mumbling.
I snapped at her, "This coming from the woman that's accepted the one thing that I've been trying to keep in my control!"
"I'm going to die either way! If not by Calvin then by fucking trying to run from this shit." Lily snapped back.
"Who is going to kill you?! I'm right here. No one with a single brain cell in their fucking head will lay a damn finger on you!" I roared.
"Apparently, some of your hunters will kill me if I try to run from this stupid thing you've dragged me thousands of miles to put me through! I don't understand why I'm even here, Kaiden. You're not the authorities and Calvin can literally kill anyone he wants with the flick of his wrist! You're going to die trying to protect me," Lily blew up, glaring at me.
I felt her rage, then glared back, "Nothing is going to kill me! I can handle myself and you're forgetting one thing. I'm a fucking grim reaper!"
"You're only half!" Lily shouted.
I felt the reaper stirring as I shouted back, "And you're not human!"
"I know I'm not fucking human! I'm—"
She was cut off by one of the hunters in uniform coming in, and I glared at him. I ordered the hunter, "Leave."
"Hunter Alcantara, I can't do that," the hunter was shaking in his voice as he looked at me with his eyes tearing up at the sight of me glaring at him.
This was a new hunter. Just a kid. I demanded, "And why is that, kid?"
The kid cleared his throat, looking at me, then said, "Elder Larsen sent me here to detain the human. She wants her moved now."
"She just woke up." I growled.
"And she is right here!" Lily sighed angrily, making us look at her.
The kid only stepped closer to her, trying to avoid me, then said to her, "Ma'am, can you please come with me? Alpha Hale is working on getting you discharged right now as we speak. His luna to be is bringing you some clothing to change into."
"Sure," Lily nodded, her emotions were back in a frenzy of pure terror.
The kid smiled at her, then said, "Thank you, ma'am. You saved me from getting my ass kicked from Hunter Alcantara."
"How so?" Lily glanced between us.
I glared, grunting, "If you had resisted, then he'd be trying to put you in handcuffs."
"Handcuffs? Like the ones police officers use?" Lily stared at me.
I kept glaring, "No."
"Hey, Lil, do you want to wear heels or converse? I personally thing heels look amazing on you," Aimee came waltzing in, and I backed away from everyone. Aimee felt the tension, then asked us, "You both okay?"
"Peachy," Lily and I both grunted out.
Jace came in, making me only roll my eyes at this, then he walked to me. He said low enough for only me to hear, "I got it all done, Kade. What do you want to do now? We can do the plan."
"What is the fucking point at this rate, Jace?" I sighed heavily.
Jace patted my back, trying to comfort me, then reminded me, "If the vamp made one of her friends a thrall, that means he's close by. Even the elders on the leech council can't make a thrall from thousands and thousands of miles away from the intended target."
"I'd be turning my back on the council for her and not even getting a thank you for it," I reminded him of how my soulmate was a masochist. I glanced at my brother, exhaling, "At least your soulmate loves you, Jason. Mine is just—"
"The perfect woman for you?" Jace cut me off, and I gave him a bewildered look. My brother smiled, patting my back harder, then said as he pulled his hand away, "I know you don't understand her right now, but you will. You've only—"
Then Lily's emotion of fear snapped into the bond along with Aimee screaming at the top of her lungs. Lily was holding onto her bandaged shoulder, gripping it in pain, and Aimee was trying to get Lily to lift her head up. I moved Aimee out the way, sitting on the bed, and laid Lily back down in her bed. She didn't want to let go of her shoulder, but I saw why Aimee had started screaming like a banshee. Lily's face was pale, sweaty, and she looked like she was death's door. I ripped her hand off her shoulder, yanking her gown down enough to tear her bandage off. Her wound wasn't healing properly. It looked infected, with her veins popping out around it, completely black.
Lily looked at me, panting hard, then said as her eyes turned pitch black, "Run."
