Kaiden's P.O.V:

I stood in the shower, letting the hot water run down my body, and contemplated on a few things. First, I wondered how Lily could say those things to me with so much conviction. Nate and Jace last night tried to convince me that she probably said that in the heat of the argument, but I knew there was a little bit of truth in her words. Second, I felt so jealous of her trying to protect Liam from me—as if she were really capable of doing it if I wanted to kick Liam's ass. And lastly, I wondered what we would've been like if we had met under different circumstances.

If I had met her on a nice day here in California and she hadn't gone through all the pain that the vampire put her through, would we be a normal couple? Well, normal flew out the window when I found out my grim reaper side, but we'd be less dysfunctional. I didn't mind the supernatural world coming into our relationship since I was a hunter and I didn't have a choice to escape from it. I'd protect her from anything that would've come her way regardless.

I stepped out the shower, wrapping a towel around my waist to cover my neither regions, then walked out the bathroom to see Nate and Jace sprawled out on the bed. I walked to the small bag Jace brought out from his jeep, and grabbed a pair of boxers. I looked at the other clothes, glaring at the cut-off shirt turned tank top and the jean pants that were also cut into shorts. I grabbed the tank top, walking back into the bathroom, and changed into the top and boxers. I slipped my pants back on, zipping the zipper up and buttoning the button.

I walked back out, drying my hair with the towel, and Nate was stretching as he yawned. Nate asked me as he got up, "You sleep good, Kade?"

"No," I shook my head, moving aside as he hurried to the bathroom with Jace waking up.

The sun was shining into the motel room, and Jace grumbled, "That's the last time we drink and have a damn pity party for our soulmates."

"You two drank the whole minibar, so rock-paper-scissors on who's settling the tab," I grunted, getting my socks and shoes on with the towel still resting on head as I sat on the edge of the bed.

"Damn, who knew you getting into your first fight would make you such a hard-ass," Nate came out the bathroom, rubbing his eyes.

I only glared at him, then Jace asked me, "Did you try to go back to her motel room after we passed out? Get some forgiveness going between y'all?"

"No," I didn't even think about going back to talk to her since she had fucking Liam with her. I blurted out as I grumbled, "I didn't want to beat Liam's ass in front of her."

"Do you wonder if they've ever—"

"Jace!" Nate stopped him, but my mind finished his question.

Jace didn't listen and continued, "Kade, do you really wonder if they've ever played naked twister? It would explain why Liam's so protective of her. Hey, you think Kade would be okay banging a chick that was possibly banged by our mentor?"

I spun around, socking my brother in the face, and growled, "Say that again, and I will kick your ass, mutt!"

"Dammit, Kade! Did you nearly have to break my jaw?!" Jace held his jaw.

I got up, leaving the room with the door slamming behind me, and stomped to Lily's room. I knocked on the door, opening it, and saw Lily sleeping under the covers. Her face was towards the bathroom, with her left hand underneath the other pillow that her head wasn't resting on. I stepped in, closing the door, and walked to her. I didn't want to wake her, but we were losing daylight.
