You couldn't help but smile when 11:00 rolled around, meaning your shift was over. You quickly lock up shop, stepping out onto the street to wait for a taxi. You'd figured since the other night, you'd start taking a taxi home.

Sure, that was going to cost extra money, and splitting your paycheck with your dad meant you were lacking a steady income, but it was better than ending up dead.

Your bruises had been bothering you all day, and soon as Andy had finished teasing you about your 'secret boyfriend,' she didn't hesitate to ask about it.

"Let's just say last night was eventful."

You look down at your phone upon feeling it buzz.

Neon Leon💙
You aren't walking home again, are you?

Y/n L/n
No, I got a taxi. I'm not stupid, Lee.

Neon Leon💙
Whatever you say, Mischief. I'll be at your place soon.

Y/n L/n
Can't wait!

You found yourself smiling at your phone, happy with the nickname, and before you knew it, you were at your apartment trudging up the stairs. Any movement made your side hurt, and climbing up the stairs was a nightmare.

By the time you'd gotten into your apartment and plopped down onto the couch with an ice pack, you were biting back tears. You couldn't help but think that if you wouldn't have been so snappy with your assailant, maybe it would have turned out differently.

Your mouth had always gotten you into trouble. Ever since your mom died a few years ago, you could safely say it had gotten worse. You liked using sarcasm to hide other emotions, like grief and sadness. It had sort of become a habit.

You couldn't help but let your mind wander to your dad. You were from Florida in the first place, but you'd quickly taken the opportunity to move to New York for college, nearly a year after your mother died. You felt guilty for leaving your father to live alone, but you had to get out of there. To compensate, you sent a portion of your monthly paycheck to your father, making sure he was taken care of.

You'd been attending Colombia University for almost a half a year, making you a freshman. You'd been offered a full ride scholarship on your softball abilities and you accepted, knowing you wouldn't have been able to afford college on your own.

A knock at your window causes you to look to the side. Knowing who it is, you get up, slide your curtains to the side and make eye contact with a familiar red-eared slider. You unlock your window, allowing him into your apartment, matching his grin. "Hey 'Nardo." You say, watching his lips curl upward more at the nickname.

"Hey yourself, beautiful."

God he was such a flirt.

"How's your ribs?" Leo's asks, his smile faltering upon seeing an ice pack pressed against your side. "I hope it's not as bad as your eye, Love."

He runs a gentle thumb over your eye making you flinch back. "Ow. It's fucking sensitive." You hiss. You also had a tendency to curse when you were in pain, emotional or physical.
