yn noticed how yuuto could barely contain his excitement as he walked towards the gym after thursday classes. it was good to see him like that. he had been off for a few last weeks, and yn tried to explain it with pointing out that changing from middle school to high school was a stressful experience.
"hey! yn!"
she bit her cheek from the inside to stop herself from making an unhappy expression.
"wait for a second," she told yuuto.
he nodded and looked curiously at a guy who looked like he should finish school already. he didn't know much about yn's school friends before coming to nekoma, and he sometimes doubted that she had any, but he never imagined she'd hang out with guys like this.
maybe he was judging a book by its cover.
"what do you need ryuji?" yn asked, putting her hands in the pockets of her unzipped hoodie, which she wore after school over her school's blazer because april wasn't hot enough to not wear it.
"who's that?" he pointed to yuuto, who awkwardly stood a few steps away.
"my brother," she stated, taking a deep breath.
"since when do you have a brother?" ryuji chuckled while scratching his cheek.
"since forever, what do you want?" yn asked again. they didn't have time for this, it was almost 4 pm, and she needed to make sure that yuuto behaved normally on the trial, with no out-of-character actions.
"you wanna go out after school, tomorrow?"
it was easy to guess.
yn was embarrassed to admit it, but she and ryuji did go out a few times during their first year. it was a difficult time for her, she had just changed schools and had a lot of responsibilities, it was nice to have someone who wasn't concerned about any of that.
ryuji was not a good influence. they hadn't met after school since the end of first year, but he wasn't giving up on her. she didn't need yuuto to worry about that.
"no, i told you already, give it a rest," she said firmly, not waiting for a response.
ryuuji caughed her elbow, which she immediately yanked from his grasp, walking away faster than she intended.
he didn't seem in the mood to make her talk more this time, but yn knew he'd do it another time.
"who was that?" yuuto asked immediately.
"no one, don't worry," she said with a soft smile, which calmed him down slightly.
"you sure?"
"yes," she replied with a deep nod. "just don't talk to him if you see him."
that didn't calm him down like the smile had.
yuuto checked his phone for the hour. it wasn't even necessary because he had seen the volleyball team members walk into the gym in the last few minutes and knew it was almost 4 pm. he also noticed a few of them casting suspicious glances at yn and her friend.
