yn wasn't a person to live of off praises. of course, she liked them, but they weren't a regular part of her life, so she wasn't used to or expected them from anyone.

that's probably why it hit her so hard when her homeroom teacher praised her for passing the last chemistry test with a good score and overall improving her grades recently.

however, in her eyes, she was not the one to be praised for it.

also, she felt like she needed a reason to spend time with kuroo and it seemed like good one to make a trip to his classroom. even though he was so nice to her and seemed eager to get to know her better, yn felt silly for wanting to return the same attitude. probably because she wasn't used to it, and making friends always seemed too difficult for her.

her head peeked into the classroom to see if kuroo was there, because if he wasn't, her entire trip to the other end of school would be pointless. yaku waved at her as soon as he saw her. yn had no idea that two of them were in the same class for a long time. yaku never gave off the vibe of someone smart, but turns out there was something more in that small body other than anger when someone pointed out that he's rather short.

"i'm gonna break your bones," kuroo mumbled with his head down on the desk, when yaku kicked his ankle. whoever thought it was a good idea to give college prep classes two three-hour blocks of math twice a week instead of an hour of math every day had never read a study on how young people's brains worked.

yaku just rolled his eyes. with all that he had heard about his bones breaking, he should have been like powdered sugar by now, yet here he was, still standing on his own legs.

"do it, i'm sure ln wants to watch," yaku chuckled, clearly teasing.

"why would she-" kuroo started, getting up as soon as he heard mention of yn. "hi."

"hi," she replied with a small smile.

yaku groaned and exited the classroom. it wasn't in his plans to watch ln and kuroo interact in such a sweet and awkward way.

"he's okay?" yn asked, pointing to the doors through which yaku left.

"yeah, he's just like that, don't mind him," kuroo assured, making a mental note to remind his dear friend to be a little more subtle.

yn wasn't sure how she should start the topic with words, so she decided to place a paper on kuroo's desk first. it was her chemistry test, and she was supposed to bring it to the next class because their homework was to solve the exercises that they got wrong on the test.

sixty-four percent was written in red ink in the right upper corner of the paper.

kuroo looked at the test and took it in his hands, leaning back in the chair to read the questions and judge the answers.

"i'm really proud of you," he finally said, looking up from the paper.

"what?"

"i said-"
