"hello?" yn answered the phone after two rings.

kuroo only realized now that the reason he called her was pretty stupid. and clingy.

oh god, he was clingy.

the first semester was coming to an end, which meant it was exam season. even though he only had a few subjects to learn, it took time between practices, games, and tutoring (which he had a lot of due to exam season), leaving him with few opportunities to socialize.

he could've approached yn at school every day, but she always had a book or notebook in her hand. all of her siblings were also taking exams, so she had to not only study for herself, but also keep an eye on them to make sure they did well on their tests. kuroo simply did not want to interrupt her because he knew that even a few minutes of peaceful studying (as peaceful as it could be at school during break) would be worth a lot for her.

but, oh god, quick 'hello's' in the hallway between classes, and 'good luck' texts when each of them had their exams, made him miss yn so much.

he couldn't take it any longer, even if yn told him she needed to study, all he needed was a normal conversation with her.

"hi," kuroo said with a deep sigh, as if the stone had just fallen from his heart.

"hi, tetsuro." he could tell she was smiling simply by the tone of her voice. "are you okay?"

"why?" he asked, chuckling at the caring question.

"i don't know, it sounded better in my head than asking straight up why you're calling me," she said with a laugh.

"i wanted to talk to you, i guess. you're not busy right now?"

he had to put his hand down because he caught himself nervously biting his pen.

"i was reading my physics notes, but i can take a break."

"do you need some help studying?" he asked.

"no, let's just talk," she said, almost groaning at the thought of studying more, which kuroo heard in her voice.

"yeah, i don't want to use our time to think about studying too."

"you? don't want to study? i thought it was the most fun you could have on friday night," yn said, chuckling.

"it was before i learned that that spending time with you is much better."

there was a moment of silence on yn's side. kuroo didn't want to doubt his ability to charm her, but it was quite stressful that she fell silent without making a sound of amusement at his attempt to flirt.

"were you always such a sweet talker?" she asked, after she had finished biting her thumb to keep herself from letting out any sound of happiness.

"yes, thank you for noticing," he replied, laughing. "it's one of the better things in me."

"oh? so you do have some worse things. i was starting to think you're perfect or something," she said putting on brave face to match kuroo's energy.

"look who's a sweet talker now."

yn rolled her eyes, but smile didn't disappear from her lips. how could it? kuroo was charming, she'd felt it on her skin several times. nothing weird that many girls at school wanted him so badly.

and the one he wanted was her. It took her some time to admit it, but she couldn't ignore it any longer.

the thought alone was unnerving, she had been alone and as independent as a person could be for her entire life, and being with someone would be the most drastic change she had ever experienced.

but every time doubt entered her mind, she reminded herself that it was kuroo. it always somehow helped her calm down.

"i should get back to studying, tetsurō," she said, not sounding especially eager to go back.

"i know," he sighed, casting a glance at his books. "let's hang out after it's over, okay?"

"i'll make time for you."

it meant the world from her lips.
