kuroo found himself paying far more attention to yuuto than the other new members of the team out of curiosity. he couldn't tell if his behavior on trial was caused by a defense system he developed when he was stressed or in a new situation, or if he was trying to act like his sister.

it wasn't important at all, it's not like he went out of his way to watch yuuto and by proximidity often his older sister, but still, it took more time than it should and kuroo couldn't just get it out of his head.

maybe it was because he was an only child and always thought siblings were funny, their relationships were always amusing, unless they hated each other.

but with yuuto and ln, it was very confusing because the way his teammate spoke about ln did not match er image in his head. he'd known her for three years, not well, but enough to form an opinion, so when yuuto showed up at school the other day with a delicious bento box saying 'yn made it' with a smile, and yamamoto asked where he got it, he just couldn't believe it.

that led him to believe that yuuto was not as afraid of his sister as the rest of the school was. he spoke about her with such respect that it was difficult to believe their relationship was not good.

kuroo couldn't help but wonder why ln was the way she was, because he had discovered that she could be a soft person, at least enough to take the time to prepare her brother's lunch while she sat in the corner of the cafeteria eating a simple bun.

why didn't she have any friends in school? aside from some deliquents, but he didn't count them because he hadn't seen them hanging out as often as he used to.

the answer could be simple, possibly she just preferred to be alone, but kuroo became increasingly interested by everything yuuto said about his sister.

"whoops, sorry," yuuto said with an apologetic smile to a guy he ran into by accident while walking to the team table, where he had earned his place. the team learned that he was quite clumsy.

they actually learned a lot about him because it turned out that yuuto enjoyed talking and generally behaved like a puppy when he wasn't playing. he was very serious and focused while playing and practicing.

"watch where you're going," the guy huffed.

"i said i'm sorry," yuuto muttered under his breath, baffled by how someone could be so upset over such a minor accident.

"you have something to say?" the guy turned to face him again.

"who put a stick up in his ass?" kenma murmured to kuroo, who was closely watching the scene.

he never understood why some people were so upset over such small issues. isn't it silly to throw a tantrum over being lightly pushed, especially when an apology was already given?

"i just said i'm sorry, there's no need to get angry," yuuto said for the third time, hoping it would calm the guy down, but in his eyes, yuuto seemed to think he was stupid.

"hey, give it a fucking rest." yuuto heard a voice behind him and turned to see the same guy who had spoken with yn while they were walking for the second trial. "what are you, deaf? move," he added when the other guy didn't move. another reminder made it for him, because he moved right away.

"thanks," yuuto said awkwardly, looking around for yn, who looked to be ready to stand up and intervene. she shook her head to the sides lightly, and yuuto took it as a sign not to engage in conversation with that guy, as she had told him a few days before.

"no problem, kid," he said, confirming yuuto's fears that he might have failed class once or twice.

after that, the guy yn knew wandered in her direction, and yuuto finally took his seat at the table.

"who is that guy?" he asked immediately, lowering his voice in case if the said guy overheard it and found gossiping annoying.

"kimura ryuji," yaku immediately responded to his question, securing his place as the team gossip. "he's like a main deliquent here, some says that he run a gang after school."

"don't listen to him," kai said, tired of yaku's conspiracy theories. "he's just a bad boy wannabe, bad grades, bad attendance, bad influence."

"oh, okay," yuuto hummed, glancing back at yn, who didn't seem pleased with kimura's smug smile and overall presence next to her.

"isn't ln like his girlfriend or something?" yamamoto asked a question that had been in minds of their second and third years on the team.

"no, she doesn't have a boyfriend," yuuto replied, finding it amusing that everyone called him by his given name because if he mentioned his surname, everyone thought of yn. but after a moment, that weird question sinked in. "why?"

kuroo lifted his head from his notebook to listen to the conversation.

"they were hanging out a lot in our first year, and everyone thought they were a couple at some point," yaku explained, trying not to go into too much detail. he enjoyed gossip, but it was awkward to say so to yuuto when he had no idea who his older sister was friends with.

yuuto hummed in understanding, as if at the mention of 'first year' he didn't even wonder why yn would behave that way.

"so, she's single?" yamamoto asked right away, earning a kick under the table from kai.

"yeah," yuuto said. he didn't find this question strange or inappropriate, mainly because he didn't know yamamoto well enough to react like the rest of the team whenever he said something about a girl. "she doesn't have time for that," he explained after taking a bite of his lunch.

"what is she so busy with?" kuroo asked, drawing a glance from kenma.

"home and stuff like that," yuuto shrugged without going into detail.

everyone just dropped the topic and moved on to talk about games, but kuroo was left wondering. why did yuuto understand so quickly that yn would hang out with people like kimura during her first year? did that mean he knew about her reputation? did that mean he only tried to act like her, or was it a part of his character during the trial?

that was a call for him to put on his detective hat. out of curiosity and boredom, of course, as he liked to explain it.
