'Ding Dong,' I heard.
I was in the middle of trying to clean my room before I heard the doorbell ring. The babies were currently sleep in the nursery so I made sure to quickly grab the baby monitor on my dresser and head downstairs.
When I looked through the peephole to see who it was, I was surprised to see that it was my mother. 'Is it Friday already?' I thought to myself as opened the front door to let her in.
"Hey mom." I said with a smile.
"Good lord what happened to you?" She exaggerated with big eyes. If you're wondering why she said that it's probably because of the way that I look. These past few days have been hard trying to balance taking care of the babies as well as myself. My hair is a hot mess. I've been in the same clothes as yesterday because I haven't had the opportunity to shower. I have dark circles under my eyes from not getting enough sleep and on top of that, my bedroom seems as if a tornado came as fast as it went. Let's just come to the conclusion that the twins have definitely kept me occupied. "Now where are my new grandbabies?" She asked with excitement as she took off her shoes and hung up her jacket and purse by the front door.
"They're in the nursery upstairs. Follow me." I said as we began climbing the stairs with excitement bouncing in our steps. I walked down the hall, across from my room and opened the bedroom door.
"Wow, Jordan. It's looks so nice in here. You did a great job decorating." My mom said as she looked around in awe.
"Thanks mom, I appreciate it." I thanked her as she started walking towards both of the cribs. "This one here to the left is Bellamy and to the right is Bay."
"Oh, they're so beautiful." My mom said as she admired them. She gazed at them for a minute as if she was trying to take a mental picture that would stay a permanent memory in heart forever. After a moment we chose to head to my bedroom to talk while the babies were still sleep. "So how's it been?" Mom asked while she helped me fold some of the babies laundry that was laid on my bedroom floor.
"Even though it's been an adjustment, I've been good. I'm really happy mama." I spoke genuinely.
"I'm happy for you, baby." She said as started folding another pink onesie. "How have the babies been adjusting?" She inquired.
"The first couple of days were hard. Mostly nights though. They do not sleep through the night." I expressed with a small sigh.
"Well that's to be expected. They're just newborns after all." She made clear.
"Oh, I know it's just harder than I expected."
"That's also because you also took on two babies instead of one but I know all of this will be worth it in the end."
"Oh for sure. I just can't wait until they start talking and calling me mama. I'll probably be such a crybaby with all their firsts; crawling, walking, talking, all of it." I exclaimed as mom smiled back at me in reply before her face suddenly turned screwed. Her eyes were glued to my chest.
"Are your boobs getting bigger?" My mom questioned with surprise in her voice. She wasn't wrong. My boobs were definitely getting bigger and sorer by the day. I was normally apart of the itty bitty titty committe at an A cup but now I'm at least a B cup. I've never been that big in my life. I used to get bullied for being such a late bloomer. Though like the doctor said, that's to be expected. I've been pumping every so often to help milk production but nothing has come yet. I think later on today I'll dry dry nursing with the babies since I haven't done that in a while.
I chuckled lightly. "Yeah, I'm on lactation pills to hopefully start breastfeeding them soon." I spoke up as I gathered all of twins socks to find each match.
"Oh wow, I didn't even know that was an option." Mom said with genuine curiosity.
"Neither did I until I found out the babies were underweight at their recent doctors appointment and their doctor, Dr. Roe suggested breastfeeding them." I explained.
"That should be exciting. Are you excited? I'm sure it'll help with the connection aspect with babies as well." She added.
I happily sighed with a smile. "Yeah I am. I never thought I'd get the chance to breastfeed any of my future kids considering I can't have them on my own so when I heard that I could for Bellamy and Bay, I didn't want to pass up that chance for nothing." I chuckled as my eyes shined bright.
"That's good. I'm excited for you, breastfeeding can really be magical. That special connection is an unimaginable feeling." She voiced as we finished folding and putting the clothes away. "How about you take a shower and making make yourself something to eat while I watch out for the babies?" My mom suggested.
I hesitated before my mother gave me 'the look' and I'm still scared of 'the look' till this day so I immediately obeyed and nodded my head, making my way to my bathroom to take a much needed shower. I took off my dirty clothes and made sure to turn the water handle all the way to hot before I stepped in. As soon as the water hit my back all the pent up stress from this whole week went down the drain along with the running shower water. I washed and conditioned my hair. I exfoliated, washed, and shaved my body with ease before I finished up and did my skincare routine that I've neglected to do for a few days. I felt so clean after I got out and moisturized my body. I chose to put on my green Gap crewneck sweatshirt with grey sweats, paired with matching green socks and slid on my Tasman UGG slippers. I also moisturized my hair and threw it up in a messy bun. I felt pretty pristine if you ask me.
After I got dressed, I made my way downstairs and saw my mom cooing at each of the babies as they were laid on a mat doing tummy time with her. It looks like they woke up happy today. They must've knew their grandma was coming today.
"Hey sweetie, you look so much better." She laughed out as I joined her.
"Yeah, I know. I feel it too." I spoke up as I made my way to the kitchen.
"What do you plan on making for lunch?" She asked.
"Just a quick pasta salad. You want some?" I asked politely.
"Yeah, a pasta salad sounds good." She agreed. "You know, Bellamy is quite the opposite to Bay?" She observed as she placed each baby back in their bouncers.
"I know right? Bellamy is quiet and calm compared to Bay. Bay loves her attention." I said as we we both laughed at the last thing I said. "Have they ate yet?" I asked.
"Yeah I fed them earlier. They woke up as soon as you got in the shower." She giggled.
"Of course they did." I shook my head, unruffled at that fact.
Once I had finished lunch, I made my mom a bowl and we both ate making conversation and catching up on each others lives.
It was a nice bonding time for the babies and me. I missed my mommy and I'm glad my babies got to meet their grandma today.
