Once we made it home, I decided to make tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. It is one of the twins favorite dishes and it was easy to make so I figured I'd go with that.
As we walked through the front door with Giovanni behind us, we all took off our shoes and put them on the shoe rack by the front door.
"Papá you have to take off your shoes, no dirt in the house." Bay sassily informed him as I laughed quietly.
He took off his shoes and put them on the rack. "Sì, mia principessa [Yes, my princess]." Gio chuckled at his daughter's bossiness.
"Why don't you guys show your papá [dad] your playroom and play while I make dinner?" I suggested it to them all.
"Okay, mommy." Bellamy and Bay said in unison before they both each took Gio by the hand and dragged him to the room connected to my living room, across the kitchen. That way I had an eye on them all as I cooked dinner.
After washing my hands, I started chopping and prepping all the vegetables, which I later roasted and seasoned. I then blended them into a soup and quickly started assembling the grilled cheese sandwiches.
I kept stealing glances on them all and Giovanni must've felt my eyes on them because the next time I took a look, his gaze met mine for a brief moment. I smiled to take away all the embarrassment I was feeling for getting caught but Gio simply smiled back before putting his attention back to the girls.
I won't lie, him smiling at me gave me just a little bit of tiny butterflies in my stomach. I knew any attraction towards Giovanni had to come to a stop. I mean I don't even know if he's in a relationship or not but that doesn't matter because there is no chance I'd even have a chance with this mafia man. He's an attractive man but he's also a very dangerous man despite how he acts around the children. It's crazy that I will always be connected to him because somehow my two cute little girls share DNA with him.
It's a bit weird when I watch Giovanni play with them with a great imagination, letting the girls control whatever narrative was inside their heads because I know on the inside he's a very scary man. Though right now as he plays with the girls he's the exact opposite of what I know and what I hear about him. I just hope Giovanni never changes the way he treats the girls because of who he is or who I heard he is. I hope he proves me wrong in my thinking of how bad he really is. It's confusing but it's also a beautiful and relieving sight to see that he's not what other people think he is at least from seeing how he treats the girls so far, he even got Bellamy to play with them. Bellamy tends to enjoy playing by herself more than with someone else but she's been getting better at that ever since they started school and met their friend, Vittoria.
I break out of my reverie when I feel a tug on my shirt. I look down and see that it's Bella. "Mommy is the food almost done?" Bell asked as her bright forest green eyes looked into my brown ones, which is rare, she usually looks off to the side of my shirt or behind me but I don't pull any attention towards that action.
I look down at her. "It's almost done, baby. I just have a couple more sandwiches to make." I told her with a gentle voice.
Bell nodded her head. "Okay, mamá." She acknowledged me before running off back to her sister and dad. "Mamá said not long, only a couple sandwiches to make." She whispered to Bay as she held up two fingers.
I smiled at the interaction before speaking. "Girls go get ready for dinner and wash your hands!" I yelled out to them as they ran to the bathroom to wash their hands.
"Do they need any help?" Giovanni asked, walking over to me.
"Nah they know how to wash their hands by themselves." I waved off.
"Thank you for cooking dinner, it smells amazing." He complimented after a brief pause of awkward silence.
I nodded my head. "Of course." I smiled.
"Mind if I help set the table?" He asked while he now stood beside me. I had finished flipping the last sandwich on the pan. I could feel his breath on my neck making me shiver in pleasure.
"N-No you don't have to do that. Your the guest." I insisted, stuttering from how close he was to me.
"I won't be for long." He uttered underneath his breath. I'm sure I wasn't supposed to hear that because he spoke very quickly after that. "Please, I insist." He responded. He gave me puppy eyes so I ended up agreeing as I showed him where everything was and he set the table.
We all ate dinner and asked each other about the day and how well it went today. The girls loved having him over for dinner. I could tell from the way they kept smiling at Gio. They even kept gazing at me as if they were secretly trying to tell me that they love him already.
After a while, I could sense how tired and exhausted the girls were after we had all finished our meal. Their once-bubbly and joyful mood was beginning to fade, and periodically their eyes would flutter shut. I wanted them to take a bath after spending the day at the park but I knew that wasn't gonna happen, considering how tired they were so I just opted to give them a bath tomorrow morning.
"Mommy I'm sleepy." Bay announced as she rubbed her eyes while Bellamy agreed, nodding her head.
"I'm gonna get them ready for bed." I whispered to Gio.
Gio agreed, nodding his head. "I'll clean up the dishes." He affirmed and with the way he spoke I knew there would be no room for any arguments of me opposing so I simply just thanked him and took my tired princesses upstairs for bed.
'There is no way he's actually gonna clean the dishes.' I thought to myself with a small laugh.
Once we made it to the girls' room, I dressed each sleepy girl in their princess themed nightgowns and made them brush their teeth before they each laid in their own bed. I kissed them goodnight, tucked them in, turned off the main light and turned on their night lights before leaving the door a bit cracked. I made sure they were okay before I left and literally five seconds later they were knocked out cold. Today must've really exhausted them because they didn't even have enough energy to kiss me goodnight.
After leaving the twins room, I attentively made my way downstairs, making my way through the living room and to the kitchen. I stopped and observed Gio before I entered and you can call me weird if you want but it was such a surprising thing for me to see a man washing dishes. Every man I've ever been with has always made it known to me that they don't wash dishes and that it's a woman's job so seeing this definitely had me dumbfounded for a second. I was quickly pulled from my thoughts, hearing Giovanni's voice.
"Done staring, Ms. Jenson?" He chuckled as he dried his hand from being done washing the dishes. I jumped, scared and embarrassed from getting caught staring at him.
I awkwardly walked inside the kitchen with an embarrassed expression on my face. "Sorry..." I dragged out shyly.
"Figurati [Don't mention it]." He replied with a smile as he walked towards me.
"Would you like any coffee or tea before you go?" I asked, trying to be polite and distract him from what just happened for my own sake.
He laughed as if he knew why I asked before nodding his head. "A coffee would be nice."
I hope you enjoyed this filler chapter!
