"Papá!" The girls yelled as they ran to me. I couldn't feel happier. I kneeled down to their level and picked them both up in my arms, making sure to hug them tight.
"How are my girls? You both look so beautiful." I exclaimed as I gave them both kisses on their cheeks.
Bellamy and Bay giggled. "Stop papá!" Bellamy beamed as she pushed my face away from hers.
"What? You don't want papá's kisses?" I asked sarcastically as I made a feign frown.
"No." She shook her head as I chuckled at her scrunched up nose and blunt response. She reminded me of her mother then. Jordan always scrunches her nose up when she's embarrassed or disguised with something, it's quite cute if you ask me.
Carrying them in my arms, I strolled towards my recently purchased vehicle, which was larger than my pricey two-seater and could accommodate my growing family. I buckled them up in their carseats as we headed off to the gelato ice cream parlor down the street.
I asked Jordan earlier in the week if I could pick them up from school today, which she easily agreed to. I wanted to spend some time and bond a little more with them. This gelato place we're going to in particular is very special to me. My mamá, Guilia used to take my sister and I here all the time when we were younger and I wanted to share it with the twins and hopefully make memories here with them in the future.
"Gelato!" My kids screamed in excitement as they bolted inside, ready to try each flavor. Surprisingly, it was pretty empty, only a few people peacefully eating their dessert, paying no mind to us.
After some time, Bay finally chose the flavors fragola [strawberry] and limone [lemon] while Bellamy picked cocomero [watermelon] and lime. I decided to go with pesca [peach] as it's always been a favorite of mine. I let the girls choose the table which was more towards the back of the place which I silently approved of.
"So did you guys have fun at school today?" I asked after we all got settled and took a couple of bites of our gelato.
"Mhmmm." Bay energetically nodded her head, swallowing the scoop she just put in her mouth. "We did gymnastics today in gym class, it was really fun! I did a lot of cartwheels with Vittoria. We also made a new friend. She's new. Her name is Luna." She smiled happily as she rambled on.
"That's good, Bay. I'm glad your making friends and having fun." I responded happily as we each took a bite of our gelato. I looked towards Bellamy and I couldn't help but frown. Bellamy was playing with the melting gelato, hardly even taking a mouthful, her face expressionless, but if you looked closely, you could see the sadness in her eyes, something was wrong.
"Cosa c'è che non va, Bella [What's wrong, Bella]?" I asked gently as I was concerned for my daughter. Bellamy stopped playing with the Gelato and looked up at me. Once we made eye contact, Bellamy began to tug on her ear. I was about to hold her and comfort her as best as I could but her sister beat me to it and instinctively pulled her hand from her ear and began to massage her hand. It was like second nature to Bay; consoling her sister was ingrained in her. Bellamy immediately relaxed, sighing in relief before laying her head on her sister's shoulder as if it was some cue for her sister to explain how she feels, for her.
