"Papà, guarda che è il Colosseo [Daddy, look it's the Colosseum]!" Bay shouted excitedly as she pointed towards the historical building in front of us, almost entranced. It was early morning when we all decided to view the Colosseum and a few other landmarks for fun, exploring it as a family for the first time together. Everyone was pretty thrilled except for Bella when we finally made it to the old building but nobody was more excited than Bay.
"Vedo principessa! È molto grande, non è vero [I see princess! It's very big, isn't it]?" I exclaimed with a small glint in my eyes as I held my daughter's hand while viewing the ancient structure before us.
"Mhmm, it's cool." Bay giggled as she looked up at me, swinging our connected hands back and forth.
"What about you, Bella? What do you think about it?" Jordan asked Bella from beside us.
Bella merely shrugged as she looked at the building and then at us again. "It's just an old building that the Romans built a long time ago, I don't really see the fascination behind it." She articulated with a deadpan facial expression. The way this kid talks, you would think that she wasn't five, almost six years old. It's the same for her sister but Bellamy pronounced things a bit better. It's like ever since they started school again a few weeks ago, their vocabulary has expanded immensely and it also helps that they go to an advanced school but I just never expected for them to speak so well at their age. When I was younger I for sure couldn't pronounce half the words they were saying. I don't mean to brag but my kids are definitely smarter than most without question.
Once I heard Bella's response, I turned towards Jordan and we both burst out laughing, not only because of the difference between the twins but also because of how emotionless and uninterested Bella's face was as she stared at not only the Colosseum but the people viewing and taking pictures of it. She was definitely silently judging them all. It was as if she was trying to figure out why people were so engrossed in the Colosseum and why it was important if it was simply just a building to her. An old building that Romans built to be exact.
That's when Jordan and I took it upon ourselves to try and explain to her why people wanted to view this historical landmark and why it was important in history.
After the long lecture about the Colosseum and why it's important to our culture and our world, Bellamy's nose slightly scrunched up and simply said, "I don't think I like history." She decided matter-of-factly.
Jordan and I couldn't help but to laugh again, hiding our light chuckles in each other's necks. "And that's okay." Jordan spoke as she regained her composure.
"I like history." Bay added adorably as she smiled at her sister.
"And that's also okay too." Jordan responded back to her.
After taking family pictures around the Colosseum and walking around to visit a few more nearby landmarks, you could tell the twins were getting tired of walking and hangry from not eating anything except a small fruit bowl from this morning.
