I sat in my Coruscant apartment, anxiously waiting for Obi-Wan to return. Ever since he had been deployed to Utapau to catch General Grievous, things had been unusually silent. I was not a Force-sensitive being, but I had been around long enough to know when something had drastically changed, and this was one of those times.

Outside, everything appeared to be normal, but I knew it wasn't. The feeling of uneasiness grew until I couldn't take it any more, and I was about to call Obi-Wan on his personal comlink before I heard the sliding door open behind me. I turned around to see who it was, and my relief was indescribable as I saw him standing in the doorway.

Wasting no time, I ran over and wrapped my arms tightly around him. He responded back in kind, stroking the back of my head with his hand. All too soon, though, Obi-Wan pulled back and looked at me. "Are you alright?" he asked softly, brushing a strand of hair out of my face.

"Don't worry about me," I said firmly. "Are you alright?"

He shook his head. "I'm afraid not. There is something you must know."

My uneasiness returned as he took my hand and led me to the sofa that I had just been sitting on only moments prior. Obi-Wan sat down beside me, but he kept our hands interlocked. A sadness that I had never seen before was haunting his beautiful blue eyes, and it made me feel unbelievably scared.

Shakily, I asked, "What's happened, Obi?"

He didn't answer immediately, but his thumb was inching along my knuckles carefully, almost as if I was a delicate piece of art that could be shattered easily. I sure felt like that as Obi-Wan took a deep breath and said, "The entire Grand Army of the Republic has been ordered to hunt down and kill every last Jedi in the galaxy."

My eyes widened. "That can't be," I said in disbelief. "Why would they do such a thing?"

"It was the chancellor's orders," Obi-Wan replied solemnly. "It turns out that he is the Sith Lord that we have been looking for."

"Darth Sidious?" I asked.

"Yes," he nodded. "He's been the mastermind behind this war the whole time, and we didn't even see it."

I exhaled deeply and tried to process the information he had just given me. The Republic was being led by a Sith Lord? How could that be?

But I barely had time to think about it before Obi-Wan said, "There is something else."

I rubbed my tired eyes and said, "I don't want to know, Obi."

"But you must," he argued softly, scooting closer to me. "This concerns your safety."

I glanced at him, but I was still hesitant.

Sensing my emotions, Obi-Wan kissed the side of my head and said, "I can't let anything happen to you, my love. You're all I've got."

His statement broke my barrier down instantly, and I fearfully asked, "What else is going on?"

I could tell that it was something even more horrible than the clones situation, and my heart began to race in protest. Ever so quietly, he said, "Anakin has turned to the dark side and become Palpatine's apprentice."

I shot up and backed away from Obi-Wan. "No," I shook my head rapidly. "He would never do that."

He stood up and said, "I'm not lying to you, darling. You should know that by now."

"Anakin could never turn," I argued. "You're his Master. No one could ever turn bad under your tutelage."

Obi-Wan sighed. "I'm afraid it's the truth. I saw it with my own eyes at the Jedi Temple."

My skin went pale as I asked, "Saw what?"

He turned away uncomfortably from me, and his hand went up to stroke his beard while he was in deep thought. An eternity later, Obi-Wan said, "There was a hologram of him taking orders from Palpatine, and one of him killing younglings."

A sob escaped from my mouth as the words hit me like a speeding ship. Anakin had killed children

No.

Nothing like that could've happened, and I would not believe it for a second, no matter what Obi-Wan told me. "You're lying," I said, trying to keep my voice strong. "Anakin cares about people with his whole heart."

He looked over his shoulder at me. "Then you are fooling yourself," he replied. "I will not waste any more of your time. I need to get to Mustafar and stop Anakin before it's too late."

The tears sprung freely from my eyes as he turned back around and walked out the door, leaving me behind to cry alone.
