Obi-Wan and I stood in the cramped room while Tala changed from her Imperial outfit. We had barely escaped from the stormtroopers that were lurking outside, and my heart rate was still fast.

He watched me in concern and asked, "Are you alright?"

I looked up from my fussing hands and replied, "I wish I could say I was, but I'm not. Those stormtroopers got really close, Obi."

"I know," he nodded. "But we're safe in here, I assure you."

I glanced away from him and muttered, "I sure don't feel safe."

It was foolish to think that Obi-Wan hadn't heard me, but I did anyways, so I became incredibly uncomfortable when his footsteps came my way. I was expecting him to be upset at my negative attitude, but instead, his hand came around mine, and he pulled me to him ever so gently. I didn't meet his eye at first, but Obi-Wan changed that by putting his knuckles under my chin and lifting my head up to face him.

"I understand why you're scared," he said with a soft tone. "To be honest, I am too. But I need you to be strong for me, and I promised your mother that I would always keep you safe. I intend to keep that promise for the rest of my life."

My heart wrenched painfully at the memory of my mother, who had given her dying wish to Obi-Wan when I was still a princess, and I instantly felt terrible for saying such a thing in front of him. "I'm so sorry, Obi," I apologized. "I didn't mean it like that."

He gave a small smile and kissed my forehead. "I know, darling. It's your fear that's talking, not you."

I then hugged him tightly and didn't let go for a few moments. All I wanted was for the two of us to live a normal life, but I knew it wasn't going to happen unless we fulfilled this mission, so I took a deep breath and held Obi-Wan for as long as I could.

Eventually, we separated, but we were only at a arm's length from each other. "We're going to be okay, love," he said reassuringly. "I'm prepared to live the rest of my days on Tatooine with you."

Warm tears edged at the tip of my eyes, but Obi-Wan quickly brushed them away and kissed my forehead again.

I truly was the luckiest woman in the galaxy.
