Standing behind the camera while watching Ewan play Obi-Wan was something special. There had been no effort for him to step back into one of his most favorite roles, and my heart was leaping with joy in response. It had felt like centuries had gone by before Ewan was finally called up to be Obi-Wan again, but that was alright. The only thing that mattered was that he was happy with the work he was doing.
A few minutes later, Deborah Chow yelled, "Cut! That was perfect."
Ewan smiled and gave a thumbs-up to the two people who were playing the Jawas. I continued to stand in the back while everyone else panned out to take a break, being my usual, shy self.
No matter how many movie or show sets I had been to, my shyness had not waivered once, and it could get irritating at how little I was able to communicate with people I had known for a long time. I would try to shake the feeling off and act normal, but I could literally feel the block inside my brain that was preventing me from doing it, so I just learned to roll with the punches instead.
Deborah talked with Ewan for a moment, then left the two of us, unknowingly, alone. When she was out of sight, he turned in my direction and said softly, "It's alright, love. You can come out now."
I was grateful for his understanding of my timid nature. He was very supportive, and he never judged me for my actions once. With a sigh, I moved away from the corner of the "cave" set and stepped out. "Hi," I greeted quietly.
Ewan smiled and walked over to me. "How're you doing?"
"Other than being nonexistent, I'm great," I replied sarcastically.
He sighed and wrapped his arms around my waist. "Stop being so hard on yourself," he said, pressing a kiss to my forehead. "I only want you to be here physically. If you're shy, that's okay. I'm not going to judge you for it."
"But I don't want to be shy," I said back. "I hate the fact that I can't talk to anyone else except you, and sometimes, that's even a challenge."
"I know it is," Ewan replied gently. "But you are a lot stronger than you think. The fact that you show up on set almost every day is amazing! Think about that for a minute."
I was ready to argue that point, but he saw it coming from a mile away and kissed my lips ever so sweetly. My thoughts disappeared without a trace, and I was left standing numbly in his arms when he pulled away.
"You should know by now that I'm going to do that whenever you try to argue," he chuckled.
I snapped back into reality and rolled my eyes playfully. "That's how you negotiate with me?"
"Pretty much," Ewan nodded. "But I don't think you're complaining."
"You're right," I smirked. "I'm not." I then put my hands around his face and pulled him down to kiss me again.
