Obi-Wan piloted his transport ship onto the large landing platform and went out to greet Senator Organa. He and his wife, Breha, were standing off to the side with neutral expressions on their faces, and Obi-Wan wasn't sure if it was a good sign or a bad sign.
He hugged Bail and shook Breha's hand, pulling back a bit to ask, "How is Lyra?"
"I'm happy to say that she is recovering well," Bail replied with a smile. "Our daughter has been watching her nonstop for you."
Obi-Wan breathed a sigh of relief and nodded in acknowledgement. "I think Leia would make an excellent bodyguard in the future," he chuckled.
"She certainly thinks so," Breha shook her head. "You have no idea how many times I told her to give your wife some space."
He smiled. "She's a good kid. I'm proud of how much she's grown since the last time I saw her."
"Leia's definitely had help," Bail said, nodding to Obi-Wan. "You have changed her in a way that I cannot even begin to explain."
The older Jedi was touched at his words, and he didn't know what to say, but Bail broke the silence by asking, "Would you like to see Lyra?"
He nodded eagerly. "Yes."
A few moments later, they were up on the top floor of the hospital, and nurses milled about the white hallways. Obi-Wan was a little tense at the atmosphere, considering it reminded him of when Padme had given birth to Luke and Leia. But he willed himself to relax and focus on the positive aspects, which was me and my recovery.
Bail and Breha stopped at a room and gestured for him to go inside. He slowly walked through the door and found Leia sitting on the hospital bed, reading to me. My face was tired, but I was clearly feeling better than before, and it warmed Obi-Wan's heart to see me so happy.
I didn't notice Obi-Wan at first, but a bit of movement caught my eye, and I looked up to find him smiling at me. "Obi," I breathed, my heart rate picking up.
"Hello, ladies," he charmingly greeted. "Long time, no see."
I moved to get off of the bed, but Leia stopped me and put a small hand on my chest. "You're not allowed to stand up yet," she firmly said. "It's not good for your injury."
I sighed and rested my hand on her bandaged abdomen. "As you wish, Your Highness."
Leia nodded in satisfaction and hopped off the bed, hugging Obi-Wan when she was close enough. "Thank you for looking after her," he said quietly. "You're a fine young woman, Leia."
"It was my pleasure," she replied. "I can see why you like her so much."
Obi-Wan smiled wistfully. "You have no idea."
Leia chuckled and hugged him again, then closed the door behind her as she went out to see her parents. He turned to face me, who had watched their exchange with a soft expression.
"I think I can officially call you 'Uncle Obi-Wan' now," I smirked. "She loves you."
He crossed his arms and smiled. "Does that make you an aunt?"
I shrugged and said, "If you'll share her with me."
"Don't worry," Obi-Wan reassured me. "I will."
With that, he stepped over to me and embraced me tightly, taking care to not hit my injury at all. I buried my face in his shoulder as I cried with tears of joy, and it caused him to look at me in worry. "What's wrong, love?" Obi-Wan asked softly, wiping my tears away with his thumbs.
"Nothing," I shook my head. "These are relieved tears."
He smiled and kissed my forehead. "Forgive me. I was afraid I had hurt you somehow."
"You didn't," she said, brushing his long hair back. "I'm just happy that you're here, alive and unharmed."
I felt Obi-Wan's hand resting on my lower abdomen, and I marveled at how gentle he was. The nurses who had been tending to my injury were gentle as well, but not like him. I didn't feel any pain rising in my body for the first time in a while, and the relief flooded through my veins like the IV I had received earlier.
I slid my smaller hand onto his and rubbed my thumb along the back of it. "How are you?" I asked softly. "Did Vader...do anything to you?"
He shook his head. "He has been taken care of, my darling. We won't have to worry about him for a while."
I swallowed, still feeling a bit anxious, but Obi-Wan kissed me and whispered, "I promise we're safe, Lyra. There's no need to be scared anymore."
I eventually nodded and soaked in his words. He then changed the subject and asked, "How long do you have to be here for?"
"Two more days," I replied with a groan. "You have no idea how bored I am right now."
Obi-Wan chuckled and brought my hand to his lips. "That's why I'm here," he said, kissing each of my knuckles softly.
"What about Luke?" I asked.
"He's safe," he answered. "I'm staying here with you until I can take you back to Tatooine."
"Won't you be exposed here?"
"Bail and Breha are going to keep us safe," he reassured. "We'll be alright."
I breathed a sigh of relief and rested my forehead on his. "I missed you, Obi," I said quietly.
"I missed you, too."
