I walked into the Jedi Council room and found Obi-Wan sitting in one of the chairs, watching me as I came in. "You wanted to see me?" I asked, stopping in the middle of the room.
"Yes," he nodded. "Please have a seat."
My hands were clenched into nervous fists, and my palms were slick with sweat while I sat down. A million scenarios ran through my head rapidly, each one worst than the last.
Had somebody found out about Obi and I's relationship? Did they snitch and tell the Jedi Council? Was he about to tell me that we had to separate because of the consequences?
I was literally gripping onto the arms of the chair as Obi-Wan leaned forward and said, "There's something I want to discuss with you."
It took everything in me to keep the shakiness out of my voice when I replied, "Okay."
"I'm afraid this involves our relationship, milady."
Obi-Wan was calling me by my royal nickname instead of my regular name, and I lost it all together. I launched up from the seat and began to have a panic attack, my breathing becoming shallower by the second. "If you're going to leave, then do it!" I cried, pulling my hair out in different directions. "I can't handle this longer!"
He stood up with furrowed brows and asked, "Whatever do you mean?"
"The Council found out about us, and now we can't be together anymore," I replied in a cracking voice. "That's why you summoned me here, isn't it?"
I didn't even bother to see his reaction as I walked over to the large window and watched the air traffic outside, trying to distract myself from the pain I was feeling. I leaned my forehead against the cool glass and was about to wipe my tears away before a pair of hands gently grabbed onto my arms.
Obi-Wan rested his chin on my shoulder as he said, "No, no, no. That's not what I was going to tell you at all."
I sniffled and turned around, confused. "It's not?"
He shook his head. "I would never do that to you," he replied, brushing my tears away with his thumb. "I was going to tell you that we needed to tone down our relationship so that the Jedi Council wouldn't become suspicious. They seem to be aware of something between us."
"But...you called me 'milady," I argued. "You haven't called me that in years."
Obi-Wan smirked and said, "That was only for show, dear. I don't want people getting any ideas in case they're nearby and listening."
I swallowed my confusion down and deflated like a balloon. I freaked out for absolutely nothing? I really was the definition of a "drama queen".
My cheeks turned bright pink as I apologized, "I am so sorry for all of that. I must look like the biggest moron in the galaxy right now."
"You're not," he replied, kissing my forehead. "If I was in your place, I would've had the same reaction. I can't imagine a life without you."
Touched, I buried my face into his chest, and Obi-Wan held me close to him. His hands were rubbing my back soothingly while he put his bearded chin on the top of my head.
After a few moments, I pulled away and looked at his handsome face. "Next time, tell me if the matter's serious or not," I chuckled. "That way, you'll be spared from my raging anxiety."
"I will do that," he said with a smile.
I smiled back and hugged him again.
