Life itself means to separate
and to be reunited,
to change form and condition,
to die and to be reborn.
~ Arnold van Gennep
________________Marcella's heart plunged like a stone into the depths of her chest the moment she was abandoned in the dimly lit office of Agust D.
Tears she's been holding back for years now streamed down her face uncontrollably. It was as if she had been holding her breath for an eternity, and now, the floodgates had opened, releasing a mix of relief and agony. The sensation gripped her throat, as though someone was tearing at her insides from within. It hurt more than she could bear. She clutched her hand around her neck while trying to hold onto the mahogany desk, it felt as if someone was pulling the flesh of her throat from the inside.
For the briefest of moments, she wondered if the pain Agust D's pealing machine inflicted of José's arm when it separated skin from flesh felt anything like this. She hoped not, because it was excruciating.
In this specific moment, Marcella couldn't pinpoint the exact reason for her emotional breakdown. Perhaps it stemmed from her indirect accusation against Ashley. Deliberately hurting her best friend was a calculated move to divert Ashley's attention away from her. Otherwise Ashley would've fought Bangtan tooth and nail for her. And she could not allow Serpents and Bangtan to be at odds. Not if she was to help them defeat Dragons.
Not to mention Agust D had threatened her brothers life if she didn't convince Ashley to leave her be.
That's why she had told Ashley the true motives of staying close to Bangtan. And she reacted exactly like José had. Telling her to leave the past in the past and move on.
She couldn't stand it anymore.
Why would everyone insist on her to give up her quest for revenge? Don't her loved ones know who they're friends with? Don't they know her at all? She wondered.
Marcella rarely held grudges, but she was loyal to a fault and if you messed with her family, she would make sure you regretted it. No matter who it was she was going to go against, it didn't matter. That's why our Scarlet haired spitfire was still after the people who killed her best friend. She would never give up on avenging the monsters who had put her, José and Sunny through hell.
Sunny used to be her best friend when Marcella was young.
Two years after her mother died, her father and Danny took her to the US where she met her uncle after a long time. He was her mother's brother but they rarely saw each other. She had a sneaky suspicion that her mother didn't like him very much, which is why she rarely saw him growing up.
After a grueling two-year legal battle, Marcella's uncle emerged victorious in the fight for her custody against all odds. Reluctantly, her father had no choice but to hand her over to him. The separation from her father and Danny was a bittersweet moment for Marcella, as she bid farewell to her past but embraced the new opportunities awaiting her in the US.
