It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves. ~ Sir Edmund Hillary ___________
The setting sun draped Daegu in a cloak of orange, its final rays casting elongated shadows across the bustling streets. In the midst of this urban canvas stood Kim Taehyung, the resolve in his eyes as sharp as the setting sun. His mission was not just a duty but a vow—to protect his family and the family of his brothers with every fiber of his being.
Even before becoming Bangtan VP Taehyung had always been known for his skills in combat and his unwavering loyalty towards Bangtan. It didn't come as a surprise when Yoongi sent him on this mission to Daegu. The threat of an attack loomed over their family, as their old enemies sought revenge for the past. Yet Taehyung was determined to keep his loved ones safe, no matter the cost.
As he arrived in Daegu with a select group of trusted men, Taehyung felt a surge of anticipation. He was on high alert, expecting an imminent attack at any moment. But as the days passed, there was no sign of their enemies. Despite the absence of danger, Taehyung couldn't shake off his uneasiness. But as days bled into nights with no sign of the enemy, a different kind of battle waged within him.
His mind often wandered back to Marcella. Her precarious situation with Bangtan weighed heavily on him. Yoongi's patience was wearing thin, and Taehyung couldn't help but question the wisdom in sparing her. Yoongi was pissed as he ought to be. In all honesty he was seriously wondering why his boss was even keeping her alive and around at this point. He knew for a fact that he'd killed people for far less than what she's done.
Could she really have that much value to the gang? Would she really pay back the debt? And most importantly would Agust D really ever set her free, even after she did? Despite her transgressions, her courage and dedication struck a chord with him, igniting a spark that soon turned into a blazing fire he couldn't quite extinguish.
As Taehyung patrolled the streets of Daegu, memories of his troubled past resurfaced from the cold back corners of his mind. Memories of how he had fled Daegu once he got into the IVY league schools few in Korea managed to attend in Seoul. Although he hoped it wouldn't, his past followed him everywhere he went.
He was only Eighteen when he killed his father.
He would never forget that evening. A few moments before sunset he had rushed home to tell his Noona he had done well with the tests only to freeze in front of the entrance of the building they were living at. The screaming and yelling could be heard from a mile away, yet he was so engrossed in his achievements he hadn't heard them right away.
His father - for lack of a better word - was at it again, abusing his sister, while he was away. He remembered something snapping inside of him, something he couldn't quite pinpoint. He saw a dozen beer bottles just outside their door replacing the ones he had thrown out this morning, telling him that the monster had drunk his salary again and now was accusing his sister of stealing the money he had already spent in drinks.
