I think this is the very first contest I ever entered.
The contest is hosted by AdrielleReina, and I know I'm in the Dark Romance category, with HappyCoati as my judge, because I distinctly remember freaking out on my entry form about whether or not I'd entered the right category because I honestly have no idea what genre Ancilla is in - it's classified on Wattpad as Romance, but it's also BDSM erotica, a vampire novel (with atypical vampires), an esoteric study guide, a meditation exercise, a bisexual coming-of-age story which centers the protagonist's trauma from being disowned, and then there are all the off-the-cuff comments about classic literature and the tabletop RPG subplot that's an ode to Jolly Blackburn... Adrielle told me it was Dark Romance. Thank you, Adri. I can calm down now, at least for this contest.
I read a few more chapters of Coati's Drugs, Treasons, and Other Demons than was required, but I'm nowhere near finishing it, which I feel kind of bad about. As a general rule, I consider it polite to finish the entire book one has been assigned. We writers put our blood, sweat, and tears into our work; it's kind of rude to DNF another writer, I think. On the other hand, "I'm reading several things simultaneously and I don't have a Time-Turner like Hermione Granger's, so this is going to take a while" is a thing.
I'm reading several books simultaneously, and I only have so much time in the day. We'll stick with that.
(Coati's novel is amazing. I don't usually even like gangster stories, and this one has me hooked, the writing is so good. No, I'm not just saying this because Coati's my judge).
UPDATE - Results announced 3/18/2024. Did not win a prize. On the other hand, I found out that my genre/niche is probably best described as erotic litfic (or literary erotica), subcategory magical realism.

UPDATE - 4/19/2024 - I provide this update as a courtesy for any contestants who had entered this who are either waiting for prizes they'd won, or are waiting for judging results.
Adrielle and Mariya had a massive blow-out fight a couple of weeks ago, and some other people were involved, including (peripherally) me. The fight swept through multiple Discord forums. Both these Wattpad authors were running contests - Mariya was doing something called the Black Sail Awards, which I never entered because I'd blocked her weeks before she decided to host it, and Adrielle was doing this one, and so of course neither contest exists because both Adrielle and Mariya dirty-deleted their contests when they deleted their Wattpad profiles.
I'm firmly on Adrielle's side when it comes to who I think was the wronged party in their feud. I would side with Adrielle even if I had been friendly with Mariya, which I absolutely was not. However, I do think the contests could maybe have been passed to other judges first, rather than just deleted. Good grief.
Gotta love Wattpad drama.
And no, I want nothing to do with Kerning. Do not even get me started on that.
