You better believe I plan on entering this one.
UPDATE (4/19/2024) - I entered Ancilla in the Paranormal category. It's basically genre soup, but since there are energy vampires who occasionally drink blood for extra life force in it, and magic of a sort gets worked, I figured the Paranormal category was the best awkward fit possible.
UPDATE (7/2/2024) - I did not make the cut, not even for the longlist. I should probably not be even remotely surprised by this.
UPDATE (10/15/2024) - The list of winners was announced. It would appear that to be considered, you need to be a big, well-recognized name on Wattpad (for instance, be a frequent host of indie awards, a Wattpad Creator, a Watty shortlisted author, etc), be a winner of a major contest (such as ONC), be a Wattpad Community Ambassador, be an Ambassador rumored to have a role in judging the Ambys, or otherwise be somebody big. (There are Wattpad Community Ambassadors entering the contest, and winning, sometimes in multiple categories. The Nanowatt judges who have entered their own work into the Ambys... well, do I need to explain why this is not a good look?)
This is not a contest that rewards excellence - it's a popularity contest and a bid for favors.
That doesn't mean the Nanowatt winners didn't write fantastic books - I've read the works of some of the winners, and even judged a couple of them in other contests. The winners are worth reading.
However, I have been warned that the contest is rigged, and that nobody who isn't a major "influencer" or official winner on Wattpad stands a chance.
That explains a few things. I'm not exactly influential.
