Ancilla was accepted to compete in General Fiction, Best Meet Cute, Best Love Story, and Most Unique Supernatural Character.

Morsels: Tales of Love and Passion is competing in Short Stories, Best Cover, Best Blurb, Best First Line ("One of the Girls") and Best Character Duo ("The Alpaca Yarn Incident").

UPDATE (11/7/24) - Ancilla was one of only ten contest entries in General Fiction, and did badly - rather like the candidate I voted for in the general presidential elections - so I'm just waiting for the other shoes to drop now.

UPDATE (11/9/24) - Morsels did not do well in Short Stories.

I suppose there's always the mini categories, but if the books did badly in the main categories, they aren't likely to do well in the minis, either. I'm calling this contest a personal washout.

Oh, well.

Also:

I'll just put these here. And mention that The Gem(me) Community is closely affiliated with Shut Up And Write, going by their profile page. In my opinion, that's a minor tragedeigh.

Definitely don't think I'll be bagging any awards from this contest... 🤣

 🤣

Really, I don't think I said anything disrespectful to the judge

I  might have thrown some mild shade in the direction of the host community, just because it's bad syntax to call a contest category Best Love Story when what you really mean is Best Love Chapter or maybe Best Love Paragraph Or Two Within A Short, Snappy Chapter (You Are Keeping All This Under Two Thousand Words, We Hope? And You Will Have Easily Recognized, Easily Digested Tropes? And A Hook? What Do You Mean, "Are You Talking About Suspension Bondage And Piercing?" NO)

And anyway, if I'd wanted to be mean to the judge, I wouldn't have just answered with "Chokmah." (Implying both parts, of course). I'd have said "Binah," "Chokmah," and "Kether," which accounts for slightly more than a third of the book.

I only suggested one chapter. See? I play nice.

If the community is still around next year, and decides to host another award, though, I think I'll pass.

UPDATE (11/20/24) -

I did about as well in the rest of the Special categories as I'd expected.  🤣
