Ravendipity's got another one out!
Ravendipity is as insanely busy as I am in the real world (why, yes, some of us Wattpadians have lives outside of Wattpad) so as always, I'm not expecting judging results to be released any time soon. Good things come to those who wait, people. You want instant gratification, bury your nose in TikToxic.
Winners get personalized playlists, which I think is massively cool.
Holly Schmit's competing, so I think I know who's going to win in the categories she's entered... Yes, she's that good.
Ancilla is in R&B (slow, calm, and/or angsty), Excavations in Experimental (non-traditional format, including poetry), Morsels: Tales of Love and Passion in Indie (fewer than 10K reads, which would be all of my books at the time of this posting, but Morsels only has a few hundred reads and is in much need of love), and Wild Is the Wind in Music Video (because yes, I did make lots of music videos for Ancilla - both book trailers with a single song, and a series of playlists. All are contained in Wild Is the Wind: The Art of Ancilla. The playlists have their own page. I'm going to guess that most of the playlists entered in this category are just playlists, but mine are actual music videos. Making music videos is a cheap form of advertisement, and I get to enjoy the playlists and book trailer videos for as long as they remain on YouTube, as opposed to advertising I buy in The Fussy Librarian, Red Feather, and Bookspry, whose e-lists give me one day for a blurb and a photo of Ancilla's book cover. Therefore, even if they don't generate sales, they are still a win, IMO).
This is the first time I haven't entered Ancilla in one of Ravendipity's great big mega award categories, but rather, lowballed and went with a mini category. This is also the first time a mini category seems to have been almost tailor-made for Ancilla, though. Slow pacing and angst? Yeah, that's Ancilla, all right, although I'm not so sure about the "calmer storyline" aspect of R&B.
We'll see if lowballing was a good idea or not when the results of all the Ravendipity contests I've entered Ancilla in are published.
To be honest, I lowballed with all the categories, not just the one I entered Ancilla in. WHO was broadcast at around the same time I found out that Excavations (my mediocre poetry) made the Amby shortlist while Ancilla (my much better-written novel) did not, and I was feeling insecure as fuck.
Excavations keeps getting passed over for the Wattpad Poetry Community's booklist of showcased books of poetry, despite Ravendipity's recommendation, so I doubt this situation will apply to me any time soon:
