You woke up early, excited to start your day. This was the day you were going to decorate the office. Well, an area of the office...never mind, it was your desk, but still, you were excited as you got up and got ready for the day.

Christmas always made you happy. The decorations, food, and overall festive feeling December brought with it, made you smile. You finished getting ready as you grabbed a small bag of decorations you bought on your own and left for the office.

You worked at Barnes Inc, a successful investment firm founded and ran by none other than Mr. James Barnes himself.

You were Mr. Barnes' executive assistant.

You had been his assistant for ten months, and you loved it. Sure, the hours were long, some meetings you had to sit in on were boring as hell, but you got to accompany Mr. Barnes on the occasional international business trip, help him with his daily schedule, plan parties and galas, and meet powerful businesspeople from all over the world.

You were also paid very well and enjoyed it when he would give random days off to the employees for working so hard.

You really couldn't complain about your job.

You had heard Mr. Barnes turned into the Grinch at this time of year which was hard to fathom. You had no idea why he would hate Christmas because the rest of the year, the man was amazing to work for. He was big into giving back to charities, donated his time volunteering, and was generous with his raises and bonuses to every employee he had.

In addition to volunteering and giving back, Mr. Barnes was also very easy on the eyes, with his chiseled jawline, broad shoulders, strong hands, tailored suits that fit his toned body just right, short fluffy chestnut hair, and the bluest eyes you had ever seen.

He was a bit of a recluse, mainly keeping to himself and only opening up to his close executives at the company. You weren't sure if he had anyone special in his life since he was so private and he usually attended functions alone. He would occasionally ask you about your life, likes, and dislikes, but he was nothing more than friendly and professional.

Every time he talked with you about anything other than work-related topics, your stomach had butterflies which you had to push deep down inside you.

You always squashed those thoughts from your mind as soon as you stepped out of your apartment and headed to work.

You had to be professional after all. You had given yourself three rules to follow. No ogling your boss, no making eyes at him, and no flirting. You had those rules in place for a reason. You wanted to always remain professional.

The firm was super successful, and Mr. Barnes was well known, respected, and made millions which meant no funny business with the boss. But that never stopped you from fantasizing about the things you and him would do with each other from time to time, you were only human, and he was quite handsome.

Christmas at the office was not usually celebrated.

Your co-worker Nat told you there was never a Christmas party and not to bring it up. There was only the annual New Years Eve Party, which everyone always looked forward to, or so you were told. Even if you didn't have a traditional Christmas party, you were going to count the New Years Eve party as one. Seeing your drunk co-workers dance and make fools of themselves was going to be the highlight of your year.
