(Y/n) puffed slightly as she got up from the chair behind her desk, grabbing the files and making her way through the precinct. She had been stuck behind in the office since she had first found out that she was carrying the baby, thanks to a word in the captain's ear from two certain big mouths, who would of course remain nameless; though she would say that one of them had a last name that rhymed with Warden, and the other, with Hullock. The latter seeming to become so worried as her time grew closer, that anyone would think that he was the father of her little one. Not that it felt so little, as she squeezed between two desks; the female detective coming to believe that she was currently pregnant with a small battalion of little Pennyworths. Alfred not making her feel any better, when he had told her that he himself had been a big baby. But she wasn't going to let anything get her down today; all the others, and even Jim and Harvey were out on jobs, which meant that she had got some peace and quiet. Or so she thought.

"(Y/n)." A voice called out. The female detective turning to see the captain.

"I need to see you............" (Y/n) nodding, before doing her best to not knock stuff of people's desks, as she maneuvered her baby belly back towards the captain's office.

"Cap...........?"

"I'm sorry to ask; but I have no other choice. All communications, including phones and radios across the city seem to have gone down; so, I am unable to contact any of the others. But..............."

"Cap, will you spit it out. I might be pregnant, but I am still a cop. I can handle a job............." (Y/n) interrupted, as she felt the itch; the same itch that she would always get when she was about to go out on a call. An itch that was more extreme than normal, given that she had been behind her desk for so long.

"I got word, before communication broke down, that there could be something big going on..........." The captain reluctantly continued, holding out a piece of paper for (Y/n) to take. (Y/n) looking at the information written on it.

"You got any uniforms for me..........?"

"Just two.............." Came the reply. The captain gesturing towards the windows of the office. The female detective nodding to the two men on the other side of the panes of glass.

"Thanks cap..............."

"(Y/n)................" (Y/n) holding up her hand before anything else could be said. It not that she didn't appreciate the concern, it just that as she had said, she was still a cop.

"I'll be fine, and I won't take any unnecessary risks. Its probably nothing, and I'll be back before you know it. But in the meantime, if you can somehow get in touch with Jim and Harv and get them to meet up with me it would make things easier. Then I won't have to put up with Mother Bullock fussing after me if he finds out I am out by myself............" (Y/n) chuckled, nodding to the captain, before making her way out of the office. The two uniformed officers following after her, as they made their way to pick up one of the cars.

Okay, she would admit that this hadn't quite gone as planned. (Y/n) doing her best to conceal herself, behind the turned over car, as yet another bullet bounced off the floor, not too far from where she was.

When she, Rico and Harris had got to the scene, it had seemed simple enough. A lone dead body lying in the middle of the street, which unfortunately was not an unusual sight for Gotham. (Y/n) going about examining the scene; hoping to get as much information as she could, it all seeming pretty straightforward, or at least it had been until Harris had tried to roll over the body; then the proverbial had hit the fan. The corpse proving to be a booby trap; explosions ringing out and sending not only the form of the uniformed officer flying through the air, but also, the cars around her. (Y/n) reaching for her gun, as she concealed herself in her current location. Rico, her phone and hope of getting out of here without a mark, nowhere to be seen. But if she thought things couldn't get any worse, she was wrong. (Y/n) suddenly realising that the ground around her was wet. Her eyes growing wide, as she realised what had happened.

"Oh, no, no, no. You stay where you are." (Y/n) said, as she looked down at her stomach.

"You have another three weeks to go, and your father will be angry enough at me as it is, without you trying to make an appearance when someone is shooting at me." She continued, as she placed her hand over the bump. (Y/n) only hoping that the captain had somehow managed to get in touch with Harvey and Jim, and that they would get her out of there, before someone made their way into the world.

                                                            >>------------------------------------<<

The wheels squealed in protest, as Harvey slammed on the brakes. Jim not protesting once, as the car sped through the city. The radio had crackled back into life, as the pair had finished their own job; Harvey joking that it was probably (Y/n), asking for them to pick up something for her on the way back. The older detective stating that she now went through more Danish in a day than he did. But when Harvey had picked up the handset, the colour had vanished from his face as the message came through. Jim looking at him for a moment, before they had both jumped into the car, and made their way to where (Y/n) was said to be. The sound of gunshots and the look of the scene not making either detective feel any better, as they got out of the car and joined the others that had found their way to the scene.

"What's going on?" Jim demanded to know. All eyes turning to Rico; the uniformed officer explaining about the body and Harris; and about the last time that he had seen (Y/n). The man pointing to the car, that was in the middle of all the action.................
