A bad day. It had definitely been a bad day; and even though he always did his best to smile, he felt as though there was little to smile about today. Ed sure that he had been the verbal punching bag for every officer in the precinct, all of them wanting things rushed; tests to be done at that very minute, Ed trying to explain that things took time, but no one had wanted to listen; resulting in him being shouted at, and called all manner of names......more names than he was normally called. But perhaps the day had a chance to redeem itself. Yes, the day was not yet over, and as he walked down the street towards the restaurant, he did believe that there was a chance that it could become one of the best days of his life. For he, yes, he, Edward Nygma, had a date; a real date, with, what he was sure had to be the most beautiful girl that he had ever laid his eyes on.

Two days ago, he had been making his way back to his apartment; Ed cursing to himself as the heavens had suddenly opened. The forensic science technician darting into the nearest store for cover, as the rain began to bounce off the floor. A sigh of relief leaving him, thankful that he was not soaked to the bone, before he turned to find out what kind of establishment had become his temporary shelter. A broad smile making its way onto his lips, as he himself in a bookstore; Ed pushing his glasses back up his nose before making his way over to the array of shelves that held hundreds, if not thousands of works.

He had always loved books, how could he not. And the smell of a bookstore was something he found quite special. The odour of old books reminding of when he was a child and would read his favourite works under the covers of his bed, by torch light. Would make him think of snow and being sat by a large fire, a book on his lap and a mug of hot cocoa in his hand. And new books.....the smell of new books was like nothing else; Ed sure that he had been caught once or twice sniffing at the pages of a book that had never been opened before.

"Oh, I am so sorry........." Ed suddenly turning, as he realised that he had walked backwards into someone, knocking a pile of books from their arms. Quickly crouching down and helping to retrieve the books, his eyes scanning the titles as he picked the collection of hardbacks and paperbacks up from the floor.

"It's alright. It was my fault; I was looking for a particular book and I wasn't concentrating on anything around me........" A rather sweet voice replied. Ed feeling his cheeks become warm, as he looked up to see a beautiful woman, smiling back at him; a pretty pink hue kissing her own face. Ed suddenly finding himself asking the wonderful stranger, a riddle; a riddle that she answered, almost immediately, before asking one of her own. Ed unable to stop himself from smiling at the unexpected turn of events. Amused that he had had to think about her riddle, for far longer than it had taken for her to answer, his. That simple moment turning into the two of them sitting together at a small table; a shocked Ed finding himself feeling quite comfortable in the company of the woman that had introduced herself as (Y/n). Quite comfortable while talking to her about the books that she had; finding out that the woman that he had bumped into, enjoyed many of the same things that he did. The two talking about old movies and their favourite TV shows; about riddles and video games, and how she liked to rebuild old pcs, until the store closed. The two standing on the wet street looking at one another; Ed finally summoning up the courage to ask if she would like to possibly to see him, again; and so, much to his continued amazement, that was why he was now stood outside a restaurant, hoping that he didn't smell too much of chemicals and dead bodies, before he made his way inside.

"And did you know that the oldest known written riddle is nearly four thousand years old? It was written in the Cuneiform text of the ancient Sumerians......." (Y/n) told him, before pushing a strawberry into her mouth.

The best day.......yes, this was definitely the best day of his life. He had never had a day that could better it. The thoughts of what had happened at work, long gone, as the meal had progressed. Ed beginning to think that the meeting between he and (Y/n), at the bookstore, must be fate. That it had rained, because some deity, had willed it so. And Ed couldn't be happier. The scientist sure that he had never felt more right, than he did with (Y/n). That he, his world and everything around him, had never made more sense, than it did now. A happy sigh leaving his lips, before he continued to ask her more questions, and he told her all he could about what he did.

Greatest, most wonderful, most amazing day that he had ever known. Yes, that was the only way to describe it. As he and (Y/n) had left the restaurant, Ed had offered to walk her home. Neither noticing the coolness of the evening air, nor the sounds of sirens and the flash of red and blue lights, as cops and other first responders made their way to the latest crime scene, that Ed would probably have to work on in the morning. The two continuing to talk, to laugh, as they made their way down the sidewalk, Ed wishing that the restaurant hadn't been so close to (Y/n)'s apartment building, as they finally came to a stop.

"Well, this is it.........." (Y/n) said with an apologetic smile. Rocking backwards and forwards on her feet, as they stood in front of the rather grand entrance. Ed wondering whether he could think of somewhere else that he could take her. Wondering whether they could just pretend that this wasn't where she lived, and they could just keep walking.

"What.......?" Ed asked, realising that he had missed whatever (Y/n) had just said to him. Feeling a little embarrassed, as she chuckled at him.

"Tomorrow night. I remember that you said you are working tomorrow; but I know this cinema that shows some great old movies, and one of my favourites is on tomorrow night. So, I thought that you might like to go with me. Though if you aren't interested.........."

"What......? No, no, no......I would love to go........." Ed quickly replied. His heart thumping wildly in his chest, as (Y/n) smiled at him.

"Great. Be here at seven thirty tomorrow, and we'll go. And I hope you like popcorn, because I always get a big bucket." She continued, before stepping forward and placing a kiss to his cheek.

"I'll see you tomorrow and thank you for a wonderful evening........" Ed simply nodding, before she placed another kiss to his cheek then made her way into the apartment building. Ed bringing his hand up to his face, sure that he could still feel the tingle from her lips. Yes, today had been a good day, and hopefully tomorrow would be even better.
