Hope you all have a wonderful New Year, and that 2023 is a good year for all of us.
"Hello Oswald..............." (Y/n) said, as she made her way into the room. Looking the new mayor up and down, as she came and leant up against the large mirror in front of him. The detective quirking a brow, as he just looked at her.
In truth, Oswald wanted to say something, but he wanted to do so much more. He wanted to tell her that she looked beautiful. That the dress suited her, and he was overjoyed that she was wearing it. That she looked more exquisite than he had ever seen her and would be proud to have her accompany him to the function. But more than that, he wanted to slowly, ever so slowly, reach up and carefully move down the thin straps that held up the soft, shimmering material that covered her form. He wanted to have the gown drop to the floor, and then let his fingers delicately ghost over the newly revealed flesh. He wanted her to remove his jacket, the tie that he had just made sure was straight. To take from him his shirt, opening it button by button until it joined his other clothes on the well-polished floorboards beneath them. And then, oh then, he wanted to pull her close. To feel her skin against his. To feel the heat of her body against his. To let his lips wander from her lips to her neck; to her breasts and stomach. And then, oh dear lord, then to her.............."
"Hey! Earth to Oswald! Come in Oswald! Is there anyone in there...........?" A voice came, annoyingly knocking the glorious images from his mind. Fingers clicking in front of his eyes, making him remember himself. (Y/n) shaking her head, as Oswald finally joined her.
She couldn't help but chuckle. She had to admit that Oswald looked quite dapper. He looked really quite handsome. His suit was obviously well tailored, the detective sure that it probably cost the new mayor, the equivalent of several months of her salary. Laughing to herself all the more, as she could only imagine what the likes of Harvey would say about it. But it suited him, and it just showed that Oswald had come a long way since he had been the much abused umbrella boy of Fish Mooney.
(Y/n) could never really put her finger on what it was that had drawn her to Oswald when she had first met him. He was a strange thing............but perhaps that was what it was.............she had a thing for the strange and unusual. I mean, she liked Harvey and Jim, and they could both be strange at times. Maybe she had a liking for broken things, for the lost and those that seemed to have pieces of their puzzle missing. (Y/n) beginning to wonder whether that said more about her than the people she liked. But whatever it was, Oswald really was one of those people she liked the most. And despite not liking the idea of having to give up one of her evening's off, to shadow the new mayor, when she could have been at home eating her body weight in popcorn as she watched a movie. Also not liking all the "insisting" that Oswald had been doing, she was finding herself quite interested in finding out what the rest of the night might have to offer.
"Ah, detective. May I say that you look quite beautiful." Oswald finally managed to say. Sure, that if she smiled at him much longer, his heart would stop beating.
"Yes Oswald, you can say that, thought it might have a lot to do with your little gift. And may I say in reply that you look quite elegant yourself. We make quite the pair." The female detective replied, as she stood up straight and smoothed down her dress. Oswald losing himself again, as he watched her hands slip down her sides, wishing that they could be his hands.
"So.........where do you want me................?" (Y/n) enquired. Luckily not noticing Oswald's eyes grow wide at her question, as she looked around the room. The new mayor gulping down the large lump that had formed in his throat, as he realised what she meant.
"You will be with me.................."
"So, standing behind you.................?"
"No.........with me. Sitting next to me................"
"Look Oswald, I don't mean to tell you my job, but if I am here to watch over you and check for any of those dangers that you spoke of, I don't need to be sat with you. I should be somewhere I can get the best view of the guests. I should be scoping out the venue to make sure that they are no weapons hidden. I should be.................."
"There will be no need for that..................."
"But that is my job tonight, isn't it? That's what you asked for me for, wasn't it? That is why I got dragged into the precinct on one of my days off, after waiting six months for a vacation..........right.........? Or........." (Y/n) asked, as she covered the small gap between her and Oswald. The detective pressing her chest up to his before looking into his eyes.
"Did the new mayor have an ulterior motive in wanting me to come. Is it that I am not in fact here to protect you from any possible threat, but here as your..........date?" The detective continued. Her voice now deeper and more seductive than it had been before. Oswald sure that he could feel her heart beat though the material of her dress.
"And if I said you were.............?" Oswald countered. Doing his best to not let her hear the quiver in his voice. Nor the disappointed groan, as she pulled away from him and crossed her arms over her chest. Mussing for a moment.
She had to admit that she hated the idea of Harvey being right, not that she was going to tell him. But she was already there; she was wearing a beautiful dress. Spent hours making sure that her hair and makeup looked just right. She was getting paid as if she was working. And there could be worse things than spending Christmas Eve at a party. So............why the hell not.
"Fine.................." (Y/n) replied. Oswald unable to stop himself from smiling, as she offered him her arm.
"Well, come on..............You can't be late for your own party...........Mister Mayor." The detective added. Shaking her head, as Oswald took her arm, and led her out of the room.
