"You...........know one another..........?" Jim asked from behind the commissioner. Looking at the shocked look on the forensic scientist's face.
"Knew, detective Gordon. We knew one another, past tense. All that was a very long time ago. Hello Ed, how are you.............?" (Y/n) asked, as she looked at him. Doing her best to hide the shock that she felt. Doing her best to calm the heart that pounded violently against the inside of her rib cage.
The boy, the last view of which, had been through tear filled eyes, as he disappeared in the rear-view mirror; his bag slung over his shoulder and his head dropped. (Y/n) didn't know what the odds on this were. That after all the years she had been away, after all she had been through, she would bump into the one person that she thought she would never see again. That, and she would find him working at the Gotham City Police Department. Yet here she was. Here he was.
"(Y............Y/n)? I............I..........is that really you..........?" Ed finally managed to reply. The forensic scientist still not believing what he was seeing. Sure, that at any moment he would wake up and find that all of this had been some kind of dream. His heart feeling as though it were about to explode, as it beat quicker and quicker inside of him.
He was sure that she had gotten more beautiful since the last time that he had seen her. Since he had allowed her to drive away without him. She had fully blossom into the woman that he had always known she would be. Her look, the way that she held herself, still as strong and confident as she had been when he had known her. And despite the fact that she had changed the style of her hairs style, she was definitely the same girl that he had watched drive away in that old fast car.
"Yes Ed, it really is me. Long-time no see...............I..........."
"You have me today, tomorrow you'll have more; as your time passes, I'm not easy to store; I don't take up space, but I'm only in one place; I am what you saw, but not what you see. What am I...................?" Ed interrupted, before (Y/n) could say more. The beautiful woman shaking her head, as it became clear that Ed really had changed very little.
"Still with the riddles, Ed? Still the boy I used to know, huh?........... Memories, Ed. The answer is memories, and we do share a lot of those, don't we? Not all good though...............unfortunately..........My apologies gentlemen..............." (Y/n) said, as she turned to look at a stunned Jim and Harvey.
"I believe that this is the best time to stop our little tour. Perhaps you would both be kind enough to take me back to the captain's office." She continued, giving both the detectives a smile as they nodded in agreement.
"Well...........it was nice to see you again, Ed. I............goodbye..........." The commissioner added. Giving the forensic scientist a last soft sad smile before turning back to the two detectives. Jim gesturing for her to follow him back down the corridor. Harvey giving Ed one more confused look, before he followed after his partner and the visitor.

Ed fell back into his chair.............it felt as though he had been falling for an eon. As if all time had stopped, as if the universe had ceased expanding and the world had halted spinning. He knew that he had been thinking more and more about the girl that he had allowed to get away, recently. Edward making himself more and more present, berating him for his cowardice, for his stupidity at not having got in the car with the girl that they loved. Calling him pathetic and telling him that if Ed had just left it to him, (Y/n) would still be with them. That they would have gone with the girl that had been the only one to ever really love them for all that they were and had been. That instead of being a lonely, awkward man that most of the precinct thought of as a weirdo, they could have had a real life. Ed shouting at Edward, telling him that he would never let him anywhere near (Y/n) if she were ever to come back into his life. That he would probably hurt her, and he wouldn't allow that. And now, here she was.
He was still finding it hard to believe. Even though he had hoped, he had seriously doubted that anything like this could ever happen. Ed had looked for her at one point, or at least tried to; the forensic scientist having to admit that he had come to see that he had no idea where to start; it feeling as though she had fallen off the face of the earth. Yet now, without even having to leave his own lab, she had walked back into his life. Ed suddenly jumping to his feet as he realised that he couldn't let her leave just like that. Couldn't let her just say hello and then goodbye without saying something more to her. Without asking her where she had been and what she had been doing since the day she had sped away. The scientist having no idea why she was back in the city, never mind why she was in the precinct and had Bullock and Gordon showing her around. Ed racing through the door, ignoring Edward's voice in his ear, telling him not to mess this up. To do all he could to get her back into their life. The scientist not noticing the looks from the officers, from Bullock and Gordon who were now back at their desk, as he stopped outside the captain's office. Ed waiting nervously, as he watched the captain and (Y/n) speak.
