September first came. The same as it did every year. This time around, Tara said goodbye to her family at home while her sister got her to the station before work, meaning Tara was standing all alone in between two busy platforms.
Muggles swarmed the place, rushing past, holding their mobile devices to their ear and talking frantically into them. Tara looked very out of place, huge 'vintage' trunk and an owl in a cage on top.
Tara had gotten an owl last week, Allidia. She had gotten her as a present for achieving straight O's in her OWLS.
She looked around twice, making sure everyone was too preoccupied with other things before turning to the wall in between platform 9 and 10 before making a run toward it,
Just before she would have hit the wall, Allidia let out a wavering shriek, but instead of hitting three solid wall, they emerged on a bright, bustling platform, full of students and parents- some dressed in robes some in muggle attire, like Tara.
Then, to the side was that Magnificent red steam train. Tara grinned, "Look at that Allidia" she sighed, leaning to the cage.
"Tara Tonks, has an owl now?" A familiar voice mused to her right.
She turned, "Yeah, Diggory" she grinned in response, "So what?" She asked walking toward him, unblocking the path of the platform entrance
"Didn't think you really had a soft spot for owls" Cedric shrugged, leaning down and looking in at the bird, "Name?"
"Allidia" Tara answered with a smile, "Mum got her, for my OWL results"
"She's lovely" he smiled, reaching a finger into the bars and stroking her head quickly before sighing, "I'm getting one after this year" he told her, standing up again.
"They're actually good company. Nice to have sometimes"
"They'll be nice to have when I'm on my own, when we both leave" he nodded. A voice called his name and he looked over his shoulder, two boys, Tara knew as two of his dorm mates, waved him over. Cedric waved back before looking to Tara, "I'll catch you later?"
She nodded, "See ya, Diggory"
Cedric strode off, grabbing one of the boys', Gavin's, hand before they disappeared into the crowd. She looked around, trying to find any of her own friends..
She pushed her trolley forward, dodging parents hugging their eleven year olds and dodging the parents whose seventeen year olds wanted them to get off. "Hey Tonks!"
Tara looked over to the voice, seeing Sarah McLaughlin, Tara's quiditch teammate. She was with some girl from Slytherin, someone new. Tara nodded at her and winked, to which Sarah rolled her eyes.
She kept walking, looking through the crowd, trying to find anyone. Not a moment later did a very familiar voice call her name, "Tara!"
She turned, and saw him pushing through the crowd, to get to her. She laughed, as he got to her and hugged her tightly. She stumbled backward a little before hugging him back, "Hello, Lee" she sighed, patting his back.
Lee pulled away, "How have you been?" He asked enthusiastically, "You look older"
"Lee isn't been two months" she scoffed
"Yeah but we're teenagers" he argued, "We age weirdly"
She couldn't help but laugh, he really did amuse her. Lee was that sort of friend who was funny but half the time he wasn't aware of it. Lee was her first ever friend, she met him in diagon alley and when they met again on the train, together they pranked the twins. He had always been there for her.
"I guess you're correct" shrugged Tara, "Where is your trunk?"
"Mum has it" Lee explained, turning back to where he came from, "she should be around...." He scanned the masses before waving, "Mum, we're over here!" He yelled over the loud buzz of chatter.
