Tara felt her heart rise to her throat when he said that. She swallowed quickly before saying, "If you're sure, Freddie."
"Oh, I am." he nodded confidently.
The second they reached the edge of the garden, Fred let go of her, "I also thought I want to spend time with you alone." He continued as they stepped into the wood, behind the trees, just out of view of the others.
"Oh really?" Tara asked jokingly, "and whys that?" The fluttery feeling in her stomach grew with every passing second.
"Because," Fred shrugged, "You're my best friend." he said. Something about how he said it however, threw Tara off guard. Whenever he talked he spoke in a confident and loud voice, but now he was soft spoken, almost unsure.
"Why?" She raised her eyebrows, giving him a teasing look, " Are you not sure?" Tara laughed.
"I am sure," Fred scoffed, "Don't tell Lee, but you're my favorite."
"I can blackmail you with that" Tara teased.
"Yeah.." Fred trailed off as he smiled at her. Suddenly Tara became hyper aware of the fact that they were alone together, where nobody could see them. It seemed Fred did as well as he cleared his throat after a long few seconds of comfortable silence. To make matters worse they were half a foot away from each other.
"So tell me" Tara said quickly taking a step back.
He looked at her blankly, seemingly forgetting why he even brought her here alone in the first place. She clicked her fingers in his face, "Anyone home?" she joked.
"Oh, yeah- um" Fred stumbled.
Tara laughed lightly, "Take your time" she told him sarcastically, "We have all day".
"Yeah well..." he took a deep breath, taking a second before continuing, "Basically when we were about to leave, we decided to do it. We were having doubts but when we saw how those muggles were treating Harry, we decided we'd just do it."
"Yeah they're-," Tara started, fists clenched.
"I know exactly what you're about to say." Fred stopped her, raising a hand and placing it a couple millimeters from her mouth, as though physically preventing her from continuing. "It includes a swear and a name that I would not approve of" he smiled.
"As if you don't swear" Tara scoffed.
"Anyways," Fred carried on, grinning at her, "-basically I pretended to reach into my pocket and I 'accidentally' dropped a bunch on the floor." He leaned back onto a tree smugly, "It was the perfect storm, built deliberately for Dudley Dursley's perfectly predictable personality." He ran a hand through his hair, the habit that Tara so often poked fun at. He looked very proud of himself, "As we picked them up we left one on purpose. Then what do you think he did?"
"Ate it." Tara answered, giggling a little at the thought, "Just hazarding a guess."
"Exactly, just as we had expected." Fred nodded reliving it all, before sighing, "Didn't even wait for us to leave. Very impolite if you ask me. Inpatient little-"
"I know exactly what you're about to say." Tara stopped him, "...includes a swear and a name that I would not approve of" she quoted him jokingly.
Fred laughed and nodded, "I get it. I'm a hypocrite" he said, putting his hands up in surrender.
"So.." Tara started cautiously, "What about your mum....?"
The topic of their mum was a sensitive one these days ever since she had made them destroy all their order forms and supplies. Tara got it. She understood why their mother was so annoyed, in a way. However, she also understood the twins. She always would understand them.
