"Ms. Tonks?"
McGonagall's voice pulled Tara from her thoughts, well mind; not much was going on up there.
"Yes Professor?" Tara answered, quietly. Every eye in the room glanced her way.
A week had passed since the incident and classes were resuming as normal, Apparition lessons continued, life was as resuming...as much as it could be. However, Tara felt like her whole self was crumbling. She hadn't eaten properly since and her friends were growing concerned.
She spent every evening alone, studying even though she had no more exams, the only people studying these days were N.E.W.T and O.W.L students but Tara had nothing else to do; she didn't want to be with the Hufflepuffs all the time, it hurt too much, and being with the boys was tiring. She spent a couple hours with Fred this week but in all honesty she had become a little reclusive.
"Are you going to pay attention in my classes or not?" McGonagall asked, sternly, her eyes scanning Tara carefully, "Or need I ask you to leave?"
Classes these days were casual, not too much going on. Exams were over and students morale was down so most teachers had just stuck to plain revision, while Defense against the dark arts classes were scratched off the timetable completely.
Fred looked over his shoulder at her as she answered, "Sorry, Professor," she apologised politely.
"Good, now could you answer my question please?" Her transfiguration professor questioned, eyebrow raised.
Tara blinked, trying to recall what they were talking about. She sighed before wiping her face, trying to wake herself up, "Sorry could you repeat that please?"
The room was silent, there was no sniggering from the back of the room as there usually would be when someone wasn't listening, instead there was just painful, pitiful exchanges of glances between friends.
"What is the most efficient way to transport an individual without apparition?" She asked.
Tara sat up straight, taken aback. Was she hearing things?
"A..." she trailed off, goosebumps forming on her arm, "a-a portakey?" Tara answered stumbling as she spoke.
McGonagall's stern and hardened expression softened for a moment as she furrowed her brows confused before nodding in understanding, "Ms. Tonks," her face returning to its original look, "I asked what the difference between an Animagus and a Metemorphagus is..."
"Oh," Tara breathed, swallowing back the humiliation. She was a freaking Metemorphagus, how could she not just answer it. Perhaps she was loosing her mind, and her hearing too at this point. She could've sworn she was asked about transportation. "An animagus has one singular form-an animal, and must be legally registered. You can only become one by following a specific list of instructions whilst you can only be born a metamorphagus and can turn into anything or anyone, depending in your skill set," she answered plainly.
"Thank you," McGonagall replied, with a nod of the head, she turned back to the blackboard, "five points to Hufflepuff." She started to write, "Next year we will look deeper into human transfiguration, we have touched on the small things, transfiguration on others and theory but next year it will be on ourselves."
Tara looked back down at her book and sat for the remainder of the class in solemn thoughts; she didn't know what to think anymore. Naturally, the rumour about the spy in school had spread rapidly and the truth about Mad Eye had unofficially come to light.
The bell in the clock tower sounded, signalling lunch. There was a scramble as people stood up, and a chatter broke out. Tara, got up also, planning on spending the next hour in her dorm, alone.
