No Safe Space Anymore

Dan woke up early, before the sun came up.

Around him, the men were still asleep, even Jaekyung who held his head low and arms crossed as he was still in the same position from the night before. The omega quickly stood up on his spot when his brain finally processed the weight of his blanket, taking the corner of it with his fingers; he was sure he didn't put it on last night, so I must've been... His nose scrunched softly, a little upset upon falling asleep so easily next to these strangers.

Silently, he sneaked out of the room with his bat on hand and backpack on him, ready to go looking for supplies. He would be back as soon as they're gone, as he wouldn't be dragged to this death trap called Busan.

Walking out towards the streets, he could see the orange colors of the incoming sunrise up in the horizon, enjoying the view for a moment before his thoughts settled in again.

He needed more food, but there were few places to look up in the nearness. Most of the living spaces were empty, the few pharmacies and stores close to his house completely raided, so he had to go to the convenience store a couple hills down. Dan silently walked in front of the houses, remembering how they used to be filled with complete families, laughing children and chatter all over the hill: now there was only silence.

All he could hear were his own steps on the street, crushing the dirt below him as he looked at the bloodied and corroded walls, the floor decorated with the eviction notices that didn't mattered anymore. He sighed upon the sight of one of the only closed houses in the block and the trapped corpse inside of it, hitting on the window as it tried to reach him.

The geek inside there used to be one of his neighbors: he died months ago when his dog wouldn't stop barking at the freaks and, although the animal escaped, his owner wasn't that lucky. Shaking his head, he kept on walking and trying to reach one of the houses downhill, paying attention to his surroundings even if his mind was thinking of his conversation with Jaekyung the night before.

Busan...―Dan scoffed. ― What an idiot... stupid, even...

He shook his head, looking at the abandoned convenience store. He has scavenged it before, so although it would be hard to find anything hidden in between the shelves or below them, he could still look in the storage room right behind it.

The metallic door was right over the side of the street, slightly open as the sun slowly caught up to him. If he's on time, the small windows from the inside of the building should give him some lighting to not stumble around once he's inside. The omega slid through the ajar door, looking at the dark inside of the room.

Nope.

He immediately walked out, standing next to a trash container in the other side of the street as he waited for a little more of sun to rise. He looked down to his backpack and opened it, sighing upon the emptiness. There's got to be something inside, or else he'll have to move out of the zone soon.

The smell of dirt, trash and the niff of death from the creatures suddenly got overshadowed by a wooden scent.

How annoying...

Dan immediately turned around to look at the alley the smell came from, sighing upon the clear absence of another soul but his. He raised one of his eyebrows, a little confused now. Why is he able to feel his scent effortlessly but not when it came to another alpha like Heesung? Why is Jaekyung smelling him with ease, as if he was a regular omega?

He was by himself and yet can smell him around? Dan quickly sniffed his clothes, wondering if spending the night in the same room with him probably got him smelling like that, or maybe he was going crazy for real now.
