Night 287
―Does it feel better?
―Yes, thank you.
The beta looked at the Band-Aid Nakyum had placed on his forehead through the blade of his knife, sighing softly as he continued on his job of finishing up a bonfire for the night. The mother of the group had talked non-stop about getting him stitched up to stop the wound from getting infected, and although he was glad to have a good nurse, he knows he's doing it to not spiral down ever further.
Not having his son or his husband around was getting on the omega's nerves, but there's no point in looking at night with no clues of where to go. He hasn't felt their scent for hours, there's no trace to follow, but the beta here is sure they can continue in the morning when there's more light that isn't the full moon. Like Dan has said before, the woods are no joke at night, and the beasts tend to be more active when they're in the dark, so they have to wait.
Nakyum sat on the ground, sighing as he saw Daehyun hit two rocks together, generating a spark that soon turned the small amount of sticks on the ground into a fire for the night. He had made sure to pick the driest he could find, but after the rain it was quite hard to find anything useful, and since they didn't had any lighters it all was so hard; he was also supposed to be the one to light them on fire, but the beta got desperate and decided he'd rather do it himself.
Once the flames started to catch some life by themselves, the beta looked at the tense omega, trying to think of anything he could say to lift up his spirits.
―If it makes you feel any better, babies can detect their mother's pheromones better than their own dads can, and mothers hearing improve so much when it comes to their child's crying. If they were to find us, or us them, it'd be because of Sanghyun.
―You seem to know a lot about kids.
―I know my fair share. ―he shrugged, sitting across him to keep the fire alive by adding a couple of sticks.
―How so?
―I used to work at a kid's martial arts camp in the summers before I joined the gym, and before that I helped a lot of my neighbors and friends with theirs.
―You never thought about having some of your own? I bet you'd be a great dad.
―I'm leaving that plan for Busan... ―he laughed softly. ―I did talked about it with my ex-girlfriend, but we broke up a year before the outbreak. When we were talking about it I took it upon myself to learn as much as we could.
―For example? ―Nakyum asked with a smile, wanting to hear more.
―I noticed Sanghyun has started to try and roll over his belly by himself, which is great. That's the step before crawling and walking.
―Yes! He's starting to do that! ―the omega cheered.
―Given his age, he'll start crawling in a few months.
―I can't believe he's turning four months so soon... It's like time flew by. I wish he could stay tiny forever.
―Are you guys planning to have more kids?
―Not until Busan. Pregnancy is no joke, and I'm not willing to have two crying babies in the middle of an infested forest... ―he let out a sigh. ―I love my son more than life itself, but had I known this mess was going to happen I would've never gone through all of those treatments.
