Day 264The team silently walked out of the building in the first opening they had. Although the plan was to get out of there before dawn, the effects of the heavy rain from the prior days and the agglomeration of the infected outside of the mall set them back for almost half a day, but they were finally free and on the way to the spot they left off. Dan wasn't a stranger of being one of the few, if not the only, omega in a survival group and the spotlight that the fact accidentally gives to one, but these people are taking it to the extreme.
He can't take a step, a breath or even turn his neck without at least one of them asking if he's okay. One time, maybe two, is understandable: he was shot and badly beaten up days ago, but over and over? At least Daehyun is acting rational by not giving it a lot of importance, unlike the other beta and the alphas.
They walked through abandoned cars that Dan didn't saw on the way inside for obvious reasons. Full of dirt, water or blood, there wasn't a lot they could get out of them, so the team simply decided to keep the route towards the highway, chatting between them about their plan of action or routinely checking on him.
In one of the cars, an infected woman was sitting in the front seat with her seatbelt on, groaning and moaning behind the closed door and window as she fought to get out of her imprisonment. Dan observed her for a moment, standing still as the team walked ahead: she reminded him a lot of Jin Ae. The only difference was that in the backseat, an empty and bloodied baby car seat sat still, with nothing in it: no remains, no bones, nothing besides the open door towards the woods. The omega gulped softly, feeling a shiver run down his spine.
―Hey Dan, you're okay? ―Jaekyung asked at the front of the group, looking back on the omega as he stood still in the middle of the walkway. ―Something hurts?
―Yeah, I'm coming. ―Dan nodded, walking over to the group to rejoin them, crossing his arms over his chest.

As they stepped into the highway, Jaekyung, who has been vigilant over the omega at any chance he gets, started walking in the contrary direction to where they needed to go: he was heading back to the convenience store.
―Hey man, where are you going? ―Heesung asked confused.
―To get Dan's bat back, just like I told you the first night at the mall. ―he said, stopping on his tracks and turning around to face the team. ―Why?
―I still don't think it's a good idea to go back just for that. Can't he just have another weapon? ―Daehyun crossed his arms, raising his eyebrow.
―No. ―Dan shook his head and looked at the beta straight to the eyes. ―If I recall correctly, I forgot it when I was shot. It's my weapon, I can't go around just with this. ―the omega pulled out the knife Jaekyung had given him a couple days ago in the bridge.
―You're just going to get yourself killed. For all we know they might be waiting for us to come back and kill us. ―Daehyun groaned.
―Fine, if you're too scared to get there, I'll go by myself. ―Dan rolled his eyes, putting the knife back as he started to walk on the direction the other alpha was heading.
―What? No way. ―Jaekyung complained. ―You'll be the first one they'll shoot. Plus, your arm is still healing, it'd be best if Heesung and I go for it.
―Are you guys seriously going back there? ―Potato asked nervously. ―Can't we just get another bat? There must be some nails laying around that we could use...
