Day 272

Jaekyung and his team have been on the road for eight days after they found the note, trying to get away from the impending threat the mystery man that wanted the omega's head in a platter meant.

Who is he, and what did Dan do to piss him off?

There's no way to know, as the omega has been extremely secretive regarding both questions. The only clues, if they can even count as that, are his sleepless nights watching the fire pits, or the nightmares he keeps having in the few moments of running sleep he manages to have. Jaekyung doesn't like to do this many night guards, even less in a row like he has been doing for the past week, but he's given himself that task to stay on Dan's side at least until they are at a considerable distance.

The dominant alpha makes sure he's close to him at any given moment, either when he's asleep, eating or just walking; his instinct tells him it's something he has to do to try and get him to relax, even if it's just a bit.

Although it seems to work, as Dan has stopped mumbling in his nightmares and instead talks about apples, they just don't seem to go away, and he's not talking much either. If anyone asked him about it, even if it was Heesung with his charm and charisma, he'd simply change the subject or straight up ignore it; this attitude, although understandable, was starting to rub on the wrong way on some of the team members, more specifically, Daehyun.

In between camping and walking, the team is barely hanging on to sanity. Not only do they have to worry about the freaks hiding in the woods, the resources that'll start to run low, and finding shelter every night, but also the dooming sensation that they're being watched.

No matter how many night guards Jaekyung took to ensure his team (especially Dan) had a peaceful sleep, the paranoia they feel when they stop to rest or whenever they hear any noise from the woods is driving them crazy.

Now following the lonely and steep highway to Busan, Jaekyung walked next Dan, keeping himself as the barrier in between Daehyun and the omega as the beta's last week's rant left him a little preoccupied of what he could do if he had another meltdown like that.

Dan normally would've complained, but in his silence he seems to have accepted his protection, walking right in front of him or besides him. His pheromones have been helping him sleep, despite him not wanting to admit that, but that still hasn't shaken off the dreading feeling that the haunting ghosts from the past are still around, no matter all the shit he did to get rid of them.

As they walked on the road, something caught their eyes some yards ahead of them.

At first, they thought it was just another survivor group that got macerated by the beasts that hid in the forest, but upon a closer inspection they realized it was something so much worse. Splattered across the pavement were the remains of several bodies, most of them were of the infected, but others looked more fresh, almost as if they didn't even had the chance to turn.

Arms, legs, fingers, heads and intestines were laying down, aggressively cut as if they were ripped apart by some kind of unfiled weapon, spelling a more grotesque and clearer message than last time.

"YOU'LL PAY, KIM DAN. –BJ"

Dan observed the message right in front of him as his eye twitched, both by the exhaustion and the stress this monster was causing him. Why didn't he killed him when he had the chance? He had it right in front of him, all weak and disarmed, and yet...

Jaekyung grunted upon the message and the sourness of the omega's scent, aware of how much this had affected Dan the last time. In a rage fit, he quickly went ahead to kick the remains in anger, erasing at least half of it. Potato gulped, his psyche more affected than ever as Heesung quickly put his hand on the beta's shoulder, trying to be reassuring; and the eldest beta's eye twitched
