The next week went by extremely slow and tiring. I filled my days mostly with watching shameless, and stealing hugs from Luca here and there when my brothers spared me a moment of rest.
The only kind if excited thing that happened was on Wednesday, when
Lucas went home and tried sneaking Monie in when he returned. She escaped out of his grip for only a second, and was off running towards the canteen where grilled fish was on the menu. We could all tell the hospital was anything but happy with this incident, and Lucas received a serious scolding from Eleandro, which he sat trough with his head hung low, but sneaking a slim smile toward me everytime my oldest brother wasn't paying attention."I could use crutches to walk!" I exclaim in protest when Eleandro tells me I still have to wait 3 full days until I could return to home, and hopefully soon to school. I would still have to come to the department physiotherapy inside of the hospital for my walk-learning sessions, but I could still go home. I know I could.
But Eleandro clearly won't budge.
"No Zina, you need the proper rest to be able to regain all of your strength. Javi already told you." He demands me, and I slump back in the sitting position in my bed I was in before.
I can now stand up on my own on one leg, but the other leg just won't move with it. It looks like I'm a robot and a piece of technology isn't properly working.
"But Eleandro, I'm so bored! And I feel totally fine to leave, right now even if I would have to!" I try to argue one more time.
"Yeah, she could even hop over to the other side of the room yesterday! Isn't that an achievement?" Lucas chimes in and I mentally thank him for backing me up.
Eleandro sighs heavily, and let's his shoulder drop in defeat, and I'm so close to doing my victory dance when he says: "You can go home in a day and a half if Javi tells you it's okay. That's my final offer." Eleandro pries his index finger at me, and I smile in triumph.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I shriek while holding my arms up for him to bend down so I can give him a big hug.
When Javi enters the room, I immediately turn to him to ask him if I would be okay to leave in a day and a half. He ponders about it for a few minutes, and I give him the same treatment as I did to Eleandro when he confirms my request.
I almost beam in happiness when I think about how I'll be able to leave this place in only one and a half days.
I've never been fond of hospitals. I almost never visited one as a child, only once I can remember when I had cut my finger during art class in my school, and they send me to that place. Maybe my dislike towards hospitals comes from the fact I got beaten so bad the cut in my finger was the least of my worries when Miguel heard of the news as I returned. I honestly am very surprised I never got something like cervical cancer or tetanus with all the vaccinations my parents in Texas didn't allow me to get at school while the other kids got them.
