After 6 more months, Rose had made significant strides in her recovery, though the nightmares and her lingering fear of water still haunted her. She knew that only time could fully heal those wounds.
"Mom, I believe you and Dad need your space now," Rose began, sensing the weight of her next words. "
Her mother listened intently, concern etched into her features. "But, honey, how can we leave you? Your job is two hours from here," she fretted.
Rose took a deep breath, steeling herself for her response.
"From what you told me. I had rented a place before, close to my job and I think it's time for me to try and get back to that."
Tears welled up in her mother's eyes, her worry palpable. "But, Rose..."
Her father came close and placed his hands on her mother's shoulders. Supporting her.
" Rose is right Sam. "
My mom sobbed. " But her job is to dangerous."
As her mother sobbed, voicing her concerns about the dangers of Rose's job, her father interjected with a calm reassurance. "I've taken care of it, dear. Rose's boss will provide her with less risky assignments and more paperwork duties."
Rose furrowed her brow, a mix of surprise and unease washing over her. How had her father managed to intervene in her professional life without her knowledge? She fought the instinctive feeling of being controlled, realizing that her father's actions stemmed from a place of genuine concern for her safety.
A wave of guilt washed over her as she recognized her own selfishness in not considering her father's worries. He had only acted out of love and a desire to protect her. With a deep breath, Rose resolved to communicate more openly with her parents and to appreciate the lengths they went to in order to keep her safe.
Cutting her off gently, Rose reassured her, "Mom, it's not like I won't come and visit you or Dad. We'll still see each other often."
Though reluctant to see her daughter venture out on her own again, Rose's mother knew that she needed to support her in this decision. With a heavy heart, she nodded, understanding the importance of Rose reclaiming her independence and moving forward with her life.
Before the car ride, Rose's parents had assisted her in packing and moving. It was a day filled with the familiar rhythms of family bonding, her mother insisting that she did not need to travel with her father and that she could stay with her but Rose new she could not be so selfish. After more reassurance they finally sat together in the car, an inexplicable tension hung in the air, casting a shadow over their recent efforts.
As they drove towards Rose's old residence, she couldn't shake the feeling of disorientation. "You guys seem off," she remarked, trying to lighten the mood with a joke. "Didn't you visit me before?"
The silence that followed was deafening, and Rose's heart sank as she watched her parents exchange uneasy glances. It was then that her father spoke up, his voice heavy with regret. "Rose, we never visited your place after you moved away," he confessed, his words laden with a weight she couldn't comprehend.
Confusion clouded Rose's mind as she struggled to make sense of their revelation. "Why?" she questioned, her voice trembling with a mixture of hurt and disbelief.
Her parents exchanged another glance, a silent conversation passing between them, before her father spoke again, his words careful and measured. "Before the accident, we had a few misunderstandings," he explained, his tone tinged with sorrow.
Rose felt a lump form in her throat as she fought back tears, the ache of their estrangement weighing heavily on her heart. Despite her inner turmoil, she managed to muster a tight smile. "Was it really that horrible for us to not see each other?" she asked, though the pain of uncertainty gnawed at her from within.
