Rose almost let out a silent scream, her breath catching in her throat. She was pale as she fumbled through her things, grabbing a flashlight with trembling hands.
Hurrying back to the mirror, she hesitated before stepping inside. The air was cold and stale, carrying a faint dampness that made her skin crawl.
Turning to look at the mirror from inside this tunnel. She confirmed it, it was one-sided. From within, she could see her bathroom clearly. The tub.
Her chest tightened, and she spun the flashlight further into the dark. The beam revealed another passage leading directly to Raven's bathroom.
Rose froze, her heartbeat roaring in her ears. This had been planned. Someone had set her up to live here.
She walked to Raven's large mirror, her footsteps echoing eerily in the silence. She could see inside his bathroom.
Locating a handle on the inside, she pulled it open. Goosebumps prickled along her arms, her fear palpable.
With trembling fingers, she shut the mirror, door whatever it was and turned back to her own.
She tested the mechanism on her mirror, ensuring she could reopen it. Once satisfied, she clicked it shut and exhaled shakily.
She didn't want him to know she had found this.
The flashlight in her hand trembled as she turned toward the dark passage ahead. The corridor sloped downward, the air growing heavier.
Rose hesitated, turning back toward her apartment. Maybe this wasn't a good idea. But the detective inside her screamed for answers, her curiosity gnawing at her like a relentless itch.
She turned back to the corridor, her jaw tightening.
Pausing, she pulled out her phone and checked her surveillance program. The cameras confirmed Elijah's bus hadn't returned yet-they were still out.
Rose clenched her teeth, shutting down her phone and slipping it into her pocket. She swallowed hard, her resolve firming as she moved forward, each step taking her deeper into the unknown.
Rose walked further into the tunnel, the air growing colder with each step. The walls around her began to change-smooth stone gave way to ancient, uneven surfaces, and the faint scent of decay mingled with damp earth. The flashlight flickered slightly, casting long, eerie shadows along the narrow passage. Her footsteps echoed louder as if the tunnel were amplifying her presence, making her feel more exposed.
The realization struck her like a punch to the gut. These weren't ordinary tunnels. These were catacombs.
Rose's breathing hitched as she scanned the ancient carvings and remnants of what seemed to be long-forgotten burial chambers. Some walls bore faded engravings, barely legible in the dim light, while others were marked with cracks and the faint outlines of stacked bones long removed. The oppressive air weighed on her chest, her instincts screaming that this place wasn't meant to be found.
Her footsteps slowed when she noticed something unusual ahead-a sleek, metallic mechanism embedded into the stone wall. It was starkly out of place among the ancient surroundings, its modern construction jarring against the history around it. Rose's pulse quickened as she approached, her flashlight trembling in her grip.
This wasn't old.
This was built deliberately. To move. To hide. For her.The thought sent a chill down her spine. Her fingers hovered over the device, and she studied its design-a simple console with a single button and a small indicator light. Her gut twisted, but her curiosity overpowered her fear. With a deep breath, she pressed the button.
