Rose and Levi whispered quietly in the dim light, careful not to disturb Lucas, who was fast asleep on the couch.
"I'm sure he won't want to leave my side," Levi said softly, his voice tinged with guilt.
Rose nodded, her expression thoughtful. "I know. I was planning on telling him you needed to be moved to a safer location. Once it's secure, he could stay with you until you leave."
Levi considered it, then gave a small nod. "That could work."
They fell silent for a moment, their gazes drifting to Lucas. His features were calm, his breathing steady—he looked peaceful.
"Should we wake him up?" Rose asked, hesitant to disrupt the rare serenity he seemed to be having.
Levi shook his head, his eyes softening as he watched his brother. "No. I have the feeling this is the first time he's had a decent sleep in a long time."
Rose leaned back slightly, her gaze lingering on Lucas. "I think you're right," she murmured.
Levi's voice grew quieter, almost reflective. "I think he let his life pass by... just waiting. Waiting to know about me. If I was okay."
Rose's heart clenched at the raw emotion in his words, and though she didn't voice it, she silently agreed. It felt like a fragile moment of peace neither of them wanted to break.
"I'll leave him a note for when he wakes up," Levi said softly, glancing at his sleeping brother. "Let's get going."
Rose nodded, and together they moved quickly, Jonathan joining them, preparing to leave without disturbing Lucas. Levi scribbled a message on a piece of paper and left it on the small table next to the couch, ensuring Lucas would see it when he woke.
As they made their way out, Rose spoke quietly, her tone purposeful. "Levi, I need you to keep an eye on someone for me. A young man you'll meet soon—Wyatt."
Levi raised an eyebrow but didn't press her for details. "Understood," he replied simply, his loyalty to Rose unwavering.
"One more thing," Rose added. "When he asks you anything, keep your responses neutral."
Levi nodded, understanding the unspoken gravity behind her words. "Got it."
When they arrived at Sasha's house, the place was quiet—Sasha was already gone.
"Whose house is this?" Levi asked, his tone curious as he looked around.
"No questions, kiddo," Rose replied with a smirk, making Levi chuckle under his breath.
They moved toward Wyatt's room and knocked lightly on the door.
"Come in," came Wyatt's chirpy voice.
As they entered, Rose felt relieved to see Wyatt's eye looking significantly better.
"Rose," Wyatt said, his lips curving into a small grin.
"How you doing, you brat?" Rose teased, her tone warm. Wyatt narrowed his eyes playfully but froze when his gaze shifted to Levi.
The two young men locked eyes, sizing each other up for a moment. Levi glanced around the room before letting his gaze settle back on Wyatt.
"You two will be together for the day until we get back. Got it?" Jonathan stated, his voice firm but calm.
Both nodded in agreement.
After ensuring there was enough food in the house and that Sasha's room was locked, Rose and Jonathan left, leaving the two adolescents alone.
Levi sat on the couch, unsure of what to say or do. Wyatt remained in bed, his laptop open, typing away.
