"Let's call Wyatt Ashcroft, then," Jonathan said, his tone decisive.
"I'll go see how Raven is doing," Rose said, stepping away.
Jonathan nodded, and Mark gave her a small nod as well.
As Rose made her way to the elevator, two soldiers immediately fell into step behind her. She sighed softly, the ever-present security detail a constant reminder of the situation they were in.
Rose waited for the elevator as she turned her phone on.
The elevator doors slid open, and inside stood Lucas. Rose sighed again as she stepped in placing her phone away.
"Patricia wants you this Friday," Lucas said, his tone straightforward.
Rose nodded. "Alright."
Lucas handed her a few papers, and she glanced over them.
"It's a one-time modeling event for a necklace at an auction," Lucas explained. "A queen's necklace, apparently. At the same time, Patricia plans to submit your pictures for a contest. She said she'll explain more later."
Rose raised an eyebrow, scanning the documents. "A queen's necklace, huh?"
"Alright, Friday," Rose agreed, tucking the papers under her arm.
Lucas hesitated for a moment before speaking. "So, Jonathan and you?" he mumbled, avoiding her gaze.
Rose raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
"He's married," Lucas added quietly. "You should be careful."
Rose glanced at the soldiers standing silently nearby.
"And don't forget your father," Lucas added, his tone laced with a subtle warning.
Her eyes flickered to Lucas, and a storm of thoughts swirled in her mind. Lucas, you have no idea, she thought.
Lucas misread her silence, taking it as acknowledgment. He didn't push further.
"Lucas," Rose whispered, breaking the quiet. "At the party, it was a mistake. I was drunk. If I gave you any false expectations, I'm sorry."
However, her inner voice insisted that night, that kiss had been the correct decision.
The elevator chimed, and the doors opened. Rose stepped out, turning briefly to meet Lucas's gaze.
He said nothing, his face carefully composed, betraying no emotion. The tension lingered as they stepped out.
Her father? Had her mother told him about Jonathan? Or should she tell him? Maybe finding through the media wasn't a good idea, her father had heart problems.
Rose felt the lingering tension with Lucas but decided to let it go as they reached the forensics department. She looked around, searching for Raven and the two soldiers who were supposed to be with him, but they were nowhere to be seen.
"What are we doing?" Lucas asked, his tone neutral.
"Looking for Raven," Rose whispered, her voice tinged with worry.
Lucas glanced around, his brow furrowing.
Rose's unease deepened, her thoughts flashing back to Raven's troubling words from the previous night. Her stomach churned as they wandered toward the bathrooms.
There, she finally spotted the two soldiers standing outside.
They weren't supposed to leave him, not even for the bathroom, she thought, her unease growing.
Her pace quickened as she approached the soldiers.
"Ma'am," they greeted with a salute.
"Is Raven okay?" she asked, her voice firm but laced with concern.
