Chapter 44- Finding Out

All day I've been trying to reach Katherine but couldn't, she wouldn't pick up my calls nor reply to any of my messages. I was going sick with worry. It took everything in me not to drive up to her house and ask her what her attitude was all about.

I'm sure she'll have answers tomorrow. Maybe something came up and that's why she hasn't been to the office but a simple call would do, so I'd stop worrying.

I was in my office at home when I heard footsteps hurriedly coming down the stairs. I initially dismissed it. I knew it was Anna and she must be rushing to the kitchen to get her water bottle and then disappear back into her room.

But I found myself standing up quickly when I heard her footsteps running and it sounded like she was heading outside the house.

I quickly walked out of my office because I couldn't help but worry, she was my little sister and whatever concerns her concerns me.

I walked outside the house and I found her about to open her car door and get in but I stopped her.

“ Hey, hey Anna, where are you headed in such a hurry?" She looked at me in surprise like she didn't expect I would be awake.

“ Uhm… nothing brother, I just wanted to go hangout with my friend, today's her birthday and I almost forgot there would be a party,” She said but I was her brother and Anna was a terrible liar.

I know she has been wanting to tell me something since I returned but she stopped herself the other day. I didn't want to force her, she always comes to me with her problems when she wanted to.

Her body language and the way she was so tense told me she wasn't going to any party. But I'll play along.

“ Well, that's good, I'd like to go, I'm bored and not doing anything,"

“ No Luca! I mean it's for girls only,"

“ What are you hiding Anna? Don't lie to me," I said and she looked at me like a deer caught in the headlights.

“ There's nothing to worry about, seriously," She said with a small laugh, she knew I wasn't going to buy that then why was she even trying?

I looked at her as I put my hands into my pockets challenging her with my eyes to keep her lie going.

“ I don't want to tell you this seriously, I feel like it's her business and I shouldn't be talking about it," She said with a sigh as she looked down.

“ What are you talking about?" I asked her in confusion.

“ I really have to go Luca, please,” She said, looking like she desperately had to be somewhere.

“ My sister runs out of the house looking panicked and you want me to let you out and pretend like I didn't see anything, not happening, what if something happens to you? You have to tell me where you're going before you leave,"

The look in her eyes told me I had won.

" It's about Katherine,” I took two steps closer to her.

" What about her?” I asked worry instantly filling my body.

" We haven't seen her since Monday and she isn't picking any calls, she just called me not too long ago and it seems like she's drunk and alone at the beach,”

“ Anna, why didn't you tell me all this last night, was this what you wanted to tell me?" I asked and she nodded.

“ It's not like she was picking anyone's call, what difference would it make?" She said,

“ Give me the keys," I said as I stretched out my hand.

“ No Luca, I want to be there for my best friend, I'll go to her instead," She said as she hid her hand behind her like that would stop me from getting the key if I wanted to.

“ I already have one woman I'm worrying about and that's enough, don't you think it's not safe for two women to be out by this time? Especially when one is drunk,"

“ But… "

“ Don't worry she'll be in good hands," I said as I urged her to give me the key and she grudgingly dropped it in my open palm.

“ Let me come with you,"  She said.

" There would be no need for that, I'll call you as soon as I find her,” I said as I placed my hand in my pocket realizing my phone wasn't there.

" Go get my phone, it's in my office,”

" Okay brother,” She said as she quickly rushed inside and before you know it she was back.

“ Thanks, don't stay up, she'll be fine I promise,” I said as I got into the car and then I quickly drove out of the mansion.

It was late so there weren't many people on the road and the road was free.

I reached the beach in no time as I parked the car and quickly rushed out of the car to look around for Katherine.

The place was quiet and empty and I couldn't see anyone, was Anna sure she heard her correctly? Why would she even come to the beach at such an hour? This was confusing.

What could have happened?

“ Katherine! Katherine!" I called but didn't get any response. I looked around hoping to see any sign of her but there was nobody.

I brought out my phone to call her number hoping that she would pick but this time it didn't even ring.

I was about to call my sister and ask if she heard her correctly but stopped myself, I'd just make her worry more.

But if Katherine was at this beach then where the hell was she?
