Chapter 75- Suspect

" What's wrong? Why do you look so serious?" She asked as she looked at me with worry.

“ I don't know how to put this without you taking it the wrong way but from what the police said, it's best if you don't entertain any guests until the investigation is over,” I said as I watched her face for her reaction.

" When you say guests what do you mean? That I'm not allowed to have my friends come see me, is that it?”

" Yes, until…"

“ But it's just my sister who's coming over," she said as she looked at me not seeming to understand where I was coming from.

“ Wait, don't tell me you think my sister is a suspect, don't tell me you think she had a hand in what happened to me," She said with shock on her face.

" What if? Just think about it, your uncle's sudden escape from prison, her sudden return to Italy, what if your uncle has brainwashed her and she's working for him again? Because from what I learnt she saw him as her father till everything went down the drain, do you think she would suddenly forget about the father she grew up with just because the world paints him black and choose you who she just met and has known only for a few years?" I asked and she watched me like she was trying to grab everything I just said.

" No, you're wrong, she wouldn't do something like that,” She said with pain in her voice.

Imagine if I told her that someone already confessed to her sister being the mastermind of her near death.

“ Look Katherine, I'm not saying this to make you feel bad, I'm just saying this so you could be careful and watch your back because at the end of the day I might be wrong," I said as I moved closer to her.

" She wouldn't do something like that to me, she's my sister and she loves me so, that is totally out of question.” She said with a shake of her head.

I could tell she was finding it hard to wrap her head around the possibility that her sister might somehow be involved in everything that has been happening.

“ This is crazy, I really don't know why you would think my sister would want me dead, it doesn't make sense," She was so blinded by kindness that she has refused to see that her sister might be two faced.

“ Katherine, this might all be wrong, being a suspect doesn't confirm one as the criminal, I'm just saying you should be careful,” I said as I removed the hair that was covering her eye and placed it behind her ear.

" I want you to be safe, just be careful,” I said.

" So are you saying she shouldn't come here? What am I going to tell her?” She asked, looking worried.

“ That would be the best thing to do until we can prove she's innocent,”

" But…But what I'm I going to tell her? And Jordan, he might want to see me too," she said.

" Leave that to me, I'll handle everything, as for your sister, I'll call her now and tell her you're asleep and wouldn't be able to receive her today,” I said,

" Then what are we going to tell her tomorrow?” She asked, I could see the fear in her eyes, the fear that everything might just be the truth.

“ When tomorrow comes we'll take care of it," I said and she nodded.

I brought out my phone as I dialed her sister's number.

" Hello Luca,” She said as soon as she picked up the call.

“ How are you doing?" I asked, not like I cared at the moment, but for Katherine's sake I was willing to be nice.

“ I'm good, how's my sister doing? I'm still waiting for the house address,” She said,

Come to think of it, if she was spying on Katherine back then before they found out they were sisters it meant she might already know where I live.

“ She fell asleep after taking her meds, when she wakes up you guys can talk, I called you so you don't have to worry," I said.

“ Oh, okay, I'll call her later to check on her then," She said,

"  That's good, have a great day,” She said,

" You too,” I said before I ended the call.

The look in Katherine's eyes told me she didn't like what was happening one bit.

" I'm supposed to trust her, she's my sister, would you ever believe if someone told you Anna wants to kill you?” She asked.

" I've known Anna all my life, and she has never done anything that would make me question her,” I said and Katherine's eyes quickly looked down, I could imagine all the things that must be going through her head right now.

“ Everything is going to be fine," I said as I ran my fingers through her hair.

" I'll help you take your bath then you get a much needed rest or do whatever you want,” I said as I stood up.

" It's time for a bath,” I said as I lifted her from the bed and carried her to the bathroom.

" Don't try anything funny,” She said and I couldn't help but chuckle.

" I'm not promising you anything,” I said.

Luca left after making sure that I was doing alright and comfortable.

Anna was busy with getting everything ready for her father's return and I was left alone with just my thoughts.

My mind couldn't help but think back to what Luca said.

I was still trying to grasp the possibility of it being true and my mind wasn't helping, especially with the way it was pointing out loopholes, I just didn't want to think too much.

I wanted the investigation to be done as soon as possible so I could finally breathe because from the moment Luca talked about my sister being a suspect I've felt like there's something on my chest.

A weight, maybe.

I just wish all the assumptions were wrong because I don't know what I'll do if it turns out to be true.
