Chapter 97- Why Me?

For a moment it felt like the only thing I could hear was the ringing in my ears. Nothing, I couldn't hear anything order other than that as I felt the phone I was holding slipped from my hand.

What did I ever do wrong? Did I ever offend someone in my past life and the person was coming for me now? Because this just doesn't make sense, I don't think I've done any wrong to anyone to deserve all that was happening to me.

“ Katherine!"

“ Katherine!" I jumped as I heard my name, it was like a loud call from someone familiar and then I blinked before the worried faces of Luca and Anna came to view.

I couldn't hold the pain in. My hand quickly went around Luca as I burst into tears.

“ Hey, what's wrong? Whose call was that?" Luca asked, voice filled with worry.

“ Why does this have to happen to me? Why me? What did I do wrong?" I asked as I cried on his chest. The squeezing in my heart was painful.

“ Shhh, everything will be fine, what happened?" He asked as I lifted my head to look at him with tears strained face.

“ My sister, my sister is missing from prison," I said as my hand went to cover my mouth.

“ What?! Is that what they said?" Luca asked in shock.

“ Yes, I just got a call from them telling me my sister is missing, how can this be? Why are they so incompetent? First my uncle escaped prison and they still haven't found him and then they called to say my sister is missing, what type of rubbish is this?” I asked in anger.

“ Calm down,"

“ Don't tell me to calm down, what if my uncle has her? What if? Just what if he has her? She's the only family I have left," I said with a shake of my head.

The thought of anything happening to Debbie was terrifying.

" I should go to the police, they can't just tell me she's missing, just like that," I said as I stood up, ignoring the pain in the leg and the glare from Luca. That wasn't my worry at the moment.

“ I don't think you should be standing Katherine," Anna said.

I didn't listen, I started walking to the door but Luca stopped me.

“ Listen, I know you're angry right now but you have to take things easy, okay, it's not advisable for you to start walking now,” he said as he placed his hands on my shoulder trying to calm me down.

But I couldn't keep calm, I didn't want to sit and watch everything in my life go south for a reason I do not know.

“ I'm fine Luca, you don't have to worry about me, besides you have breakfast with your dad, go to him, I'll go to the police," I said but Luca shook his head.

“ That's not happening, Anna would go to my dad and make an excuse for me.Tell dad there's an emergency and there's something I need to take care of, apologize on my behalf." he said as he turned to Anna and she nodded.

“ I will brother, Katherine please take care, everything will be alright," she said as she walked to me and hugged me before fist pumping her brother and then she walked out.

“ Let's go," Luca said and before I could take the first step, he carried me into his arms.

“ You're so stubborn," he said as he started walking us out of the house. When we got outside he opened the car door and sat me in the passenger seat then he turned around to the driver's seat and started the car.

I just sat quietly as I tried to remember any time in my life that I might have wronged someone but I couldn't think of any. I was good at minding my business. Then why was this happening to me? Why was all these happening? Think Katherine, maybe you've wronged someone.

Who did I offend?

Or was this one of those things where a person suffers for a mistake they made in their past life, maybe that was what I was facing.

We got to the police station and Luca parked the car as he quickly rushed out and opened the door for me then brought out my wheelchair.

“ I'm not going to sit on that Luca, You're wasting your time," I said.

“ Stop being like this Katherine," he said but I didn't even bother arguing with him I just got up and started walking inside. I heard him sigh but I didn't stop.

Was that how I was going to keep sitting in the wheelchair? Till how long?

We walked side by side with Luca glancing at me every second like I was going to fall. I had a small limp but that's nothing compared to how I was feeling.

We reached the office of the officer in charge of Debbie's case.

“Miss Westbrook I'm…” I stopped whatever he was going to say.

" You're sorry?! Is that it? Anyone can be taken away from prison and you wouldn't know where they are? This is incompetence at its highest level, you don't know where she is, you're going to tell me you're working on it just like they've been working to find my uncle and still they have no idea about where he is. My God, do you people even do your job?”.

" Madam we know you're angry…"

“ Angry? No I'm not angry, I'm furious, livid, what has the system become?" I asked and the officer just watched me unable to say a thing.

“ My love, sit down please," Luca said with a sigh as he held my shoulder so I could sit down.

“ Right now we have to work together to be able to find your sister, because I'm sorry to say this but if we don't find her on time she might turn up dead,” he said.
