[Y/n's PoV]

A few months had passed since my conversation with Ei and I am currently enjoying a stroll through the vast forests of Sumeru while taking in the tranquil beauty of the scenery. The cool breezes were calming and refreshing, and the natural splendor was a pleasing sight.

Even after Ei had finished 'comforting' me, my body still felt a lingering sense of stress and tension. However the intense grief that I had previously felt for my mother suddenly felt like it had been numbed.

I still missed her, but the pain was no longer as strong as it had been. The actions that Ei gifted me had been painful and forced, yet I also could not deny the effect it had left on me to fill me with comfort. It's hard to admit it but Ei's treatment has actually been... effective.

I had eventually accepted my mother's death. Of course, there's still some grief that lingered inside me and would never truly go away, but it was no longer a crippling and controlling force like before.

I had taken Ei's advice to heart and allowed myself to open up to the comfort she had granted me rather than walling myself off from everyone.

Now that I think about it... Ei helped me so much even if I'm not asking for it...

Even though my relationship with her was still somewhat tense, I had begun to acknowledge her contributions in her own ways. While she could be forceful and demanding, she had also helped me in a time when I could have easily ended up lost inside my own world but instead managed to find closure and acceptance within myself.

I still did not show a lot of outward affection towards her, but I was... starting to soften my attitude slightly.

"Mmph..?"

Lost in my own thoughts, two pairs of hands wrapped around my mouth while the other was holding a knife to my neck as the nine individuals were revealed to be a group of fatui.

Some of them each grabbed one of my limbs as they restrained me and pinned me down against the ground. They were armed with various weapons. Perhaps they had snuck up on me without making a sound, and I could tell that they wanted to hold me for ransom.

Right, I almost forgot...

My marriage to Ei was one of high political and cultural significance, especially with her role as the Shogun hence it made sense that the Fatui would attempt to take advantage of me as leverage to get what they wanted from Ei.

Without much resistance, I managed to break free and tried to punch the one holding a knife with all my might before running away.

To my luck however, one of the Fatui quickly caught up with me and grabbed my arm before I could get away as the other three surrounded me quickly. The one with the knife moved it closer to my face as he spoke in arrogance.

"We are not joking around here. Give us some key information about the Electro Archon and if you refuse, we'll take you to Snezhnaya per Her Majesty's command."

I scoffed, "Tch, as if I'm giving you one."

The fatui just narrowed his eyes before punching me in the stomach. I groaned in pain before the Fatui grabbed my throat.

"We're here to have some simple negotiations. All you have to do is answer a couple of questions about your wife, and we will let you go unharmed. Otherwise, we will drag you back to Snezhnaya and make you regret your attitude."

I know for a fact that even though Ei is possessive and controlling towards me, that would never be the reason to completely expose her own secrets and weaknesses.
